American Interests At Home And Abroad

While we waste time in Pakistan and Afghanistan, fighting a war that in all rights India and China should be helping in, our children are smoking more potent marijuana and our jobs are disappearing faster than chicken wings at a Fat Albert Reunion, so what can you do? In Washington there is wide ranging talk discussing the recent reports which have shown that retail sales fell for a second straight month in April. Economists consider this to be a disappointing report which has now raised concerns regarding the previous sentiment that consumers were regaining their desire to shop. However, what economists, politicians, and business leaders need to know is that if we don’t have jobs we can’t afford to buy and if everyone moves to China, India, and Mexico then they better expect to lower prices because when all of the Americans are no longer working they sure as hell won’t be buying and what is a little problem right now will be a much bigger problem later. All economists agree that a rebound in consumer demand is what will actually bring the American economy out of its funk but they also need to remember that those who have lost their jobs, or are in jeopardy of losing their jobs, will not run out and buy anything that is not a necessity so until corporate America creates domestic jobs then we can only expect things to stay as miserable as the yare right now. The Commerce Department released a report which details that retail sales fell 0.4 percent in April but what went into this report also needs to be stated, Chrysler and GM employees being laid off, American Axle announcing a closing of operation in Detroit costing even more jobs, add to that the ripple effects of all the shops and local businesses closing and you can see the problem. We need to figure out a taxation that levels the global business playing field or we will continue to hemorrhage jobs and this will continue to exacerbate the current economic problems. Retail reports early in the year showed modest gains in sales but the large scale layoffs in late February and early March have led us to experience setbacks in economic confidence and this has resulted in lower spending and buying. So to correct the problem we need to figure out how we can keep jobs in America, buying imported items does nothing to stimulate our domestic economy because most of the money goes right out of the country and back to where the items are built. Confidence will come when we build what we buy and until then it will never be there again, count on that. And by the way, why should we feel better about spending when the so-called domestic American companies who are exporting our jobs while importing their foreign made products does not feel good about keeping us working. And don’t think it is just manual labor jobs any longer, the economic malaise has now reached the white collar world as well, these are the same sheep who told us to toe the party line thinking they would never be touched, hah, these idiots are now in the same boat as manual laborers, this economic destruction caused by becoming a nation of importers is hitting white and blue collar workers alike and the only way to fix it is to enact legislation which makes importing less attractive and domestic building much more attractive. Weakness in retail has hit the autos, department stores, general merchandise stores, electronic stores, clothing stores, entertainment stores, furniture stores, appliance stores, food and beverage stores and even the dastardly gas gouging gasoline stations. However, one store did increase, guess who? Wal-Mart Stores. Wal-Mart actually stated that its same-store sales rose 5 percent, excluding fuel, which beat expectations. Americans need to contact their legislators and demand action, don’t wait for it. Your vote counts for a reason so make use of it. And Europe, don’t think you are safe from this, and nor is Canada, Japan, or Australia. We all need to guard against the predatory practices of China, India, and Mexico, or we will all have to lower our prices to their level so we can compete. You make the choice, ask your politicians to protect your quality of life or wait till you reach the levels now seen in overseas sweatshop locations, its your future, what will you do with it.
