Gas Gouging Is Very UNAMERICAN

I am asked all of the time why I complain about the price of gas and here is why, this interesting article details many of the concerns regarding the price of gas. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090216/ap_on_bi_ge/gas_prices_unhinged . I contacted my states Attorney General to find out why Michiganders are paying such a high price for gas at the pump and it appears that many others throughout the country believe as I do that the price of gas is being artificially manipulated. Everyone wants free markets until they are not the top profiteers and then they want to manipulate the process, oil is just another example of how we allow corporate greed to shape our lives as we acquiesce to big business once again and our politicians do nothing but throw their hands up. However, wait till gas rises in the summer, then like Punxsutawney Phil these groundhogs (politicians) will emerge from their hole in the ground for their face time on the news. I support our elected politicians but I also hold them accountable and many of the politicians currently in place have been presiding over our country as we have experienced the largest ever job losses, highest national debt, greatest trade deficit, and worst economic confidence in our countries recent times so I like many others get upset when our politicians only rally to our side when it is for their benefit. Why do we not have a more stable energy policy in place already, why should we have to wait for further energy gouging to occur in the summer before our elected officials do something? In addition, why do we continue to allow Asian countries to take advantage of us through unfair trade practices? Why don’t we fix the trade issues with Asia which have in all reality created our current economic catastrophe? Why don’t we demand a foreign presence in our country like foreign countries do to us? Most Asian and Central Asian countries tell Western companies that if they want to sell in their country then a percentage of the business has to be done in their country, why don’t we do the same? And don’t give me the rhetoric about that’s now how trade and economics is supposed to work because in case anyone has not noticed, India and China are now eating our combined economic lunches and they are the countries who enforce the build it and buy it locally economic rule. When the game changes the rules must be adapted and its time we adapt our economic policies to adjust to the new economic conditions. We cannot continue to play by the same old rules which are exploited by countries such as India and China. Big business won’t stand up for your economic rights because they don’t rally care, that’s why they are now considered to be more reviled then politicians and lawyers. Big business just moves to wherever, they have no stake in your life other than to hope and try to convince you that they do care about you so that you keep buying their products. It’s time we look to smaller businesses who do produce locally and end the grip big business has on us and our lives. By supporting local business we empower ourselves and that along with political accountability for our politicians is the real way back to American prosperity.
