Well I never thought I would hear a saying stupider than ‘jobs Americans’ won’t do’ but I have and here it is, ‘Even if we start to drill now we will not see oil for two to three years.’ Is this not the most idiotic thing you have ever heard? Maybe someone needs to tell these idiots that if we had begun to drill four years ago like most politicians wanted to we would not be in the energy mess we are in. Where do these idiots think they will be in three to four years, Mars? I don’t know about you but I intend on being around in three to four years and I still intend to be using oil so I stay drill away and lets resolve this issue once and for all. We also need much more clean coal building than we currently have. We can now burn it cleanly and by the way, for all those tree-hugging hypocrites out there who protest energy creating in America, why don’t you do something about China or India or even Mexico? Yeah, you want to be soo green but you sure don’t mind buying cheap imported goods from countries that are destroying the earth ten times faster than the United States. It kills me to see these wannabee hippies out there protesting power plants all the while they have a house full of Chinese made products, I guess they don’t mind supporting the number one carbon emitting country in the world as long as you don’t tell anyone on them. Well I am telling and I bet not one of the m has the guts to respond. We can use the jobs and we can use the energy so what is the problem? Should we keep sending our money overseas or have it recycled back here at home. Big oil does nto want America to start drilling because that reduces their monopoly, doesn’t that tell you all you need to know about which side of this issue you should be on? Let’s dig for some energy and create some jobs, we have the technology, let’s not be in even worse shape four more years from no.
Just a couple of things since you went to the trouble to post.
First, I do agree that if it can be done clean, unlike BP in Africa or Shell in South America, I have no problem with drilling. It’s there, it’s almost gone anyway, and it’s one less topic I have to hear the right bitch about.
However, I think it is important to keep in mind that no matter how much oil we drill on our home soil, it will all go on the global market, barely denting the price. Thank goodness for those trade agreements that force us into this.
Look, if we drill, let’s drill to just get it over with. If you think it’s going to save the country without supporting it with equal parts of Wind, Nuke, and anything but Corn.
Seriously, every country that has pulled off anything resembling alternative fuels nix’d corn about 10 minutes in. Switch Grass or Sugar Kane. And yes, if we can genetically engineer corn, why the hell can’t we genetically engineer sugar kane to grow anywhere?
I also don’t think you’re going to get a lot accomplished by calling people names. All you have to do is view one of about 100 documentries detailing oil spills and of course it scares people.
We should all start thinking about the other guy just a little bit.
And for the record, I spent 8 years in the USMC and was a confirmed Regan-ite.
This you - vs. - me crap has got to stop.
Great post Paul,
I agree %100 percent. We need to adjust our traqde agreements and secureour domestic energy needs. We also need government reinvestment in America and not abroad. I alos liek your point about global oil markets.
