Free Trade Has A Steep Price For Americans

Free Trade for America has a price, its our prosperity and jobs. Let me get this straight, we want to have free trade with Columbia, which is a country who suppresses any unionization and which has an economy which is run in a more communistic fashion than is Soviet Russia or Communist China. Is this right? And then you have American politicians, and companies, applying pressure to Russia regarding political reform and free capitalism while at the same time turning their two-face stare the other way when it comes to China and their suppression of freedom and human rights.

How can American politicians and big business be so holier than thou to some countries and devils advocates to others? Isn’t moral, and ethical, decisions pretty cut and dry? Is the fact that China owns so much American debt the reason their human rights atrocities and their denial of basic human freedoms is overlooked while countries such as Russia get hammered in the global spotlight? And trust me, don’t just look at our politicians and big business, you better look inward as well. Did you speak up to stop the unfair conditions of NAFTA? Did you step up to stop normalized trade relations with China? Do you make informed decisions to buy domestically American made products or do you just buy the Chinese cheapest? I am one of the first to accuse politicians of selling out when they do, but I also understand that I have an obligation to speak out as I do and I utilize this to stand against the loss of American values and livelihood, what do you do?

Don’t get me wrong, I am no better than you or anyone else, I am just more active than maybe you, or anyone else. Please also do not accuse me of China, or India, bashing, how these countries are ran should not be our business and we should not try to pin our laziness on their prosperity. Human rights issues, denial of freedoms, and other basic human rights are on the table but we can never tell a country how to be ran, we can only hold them to global standards and responsibilities and if we do business with a slimy undercutting no-morals snake then it is our fault for dealing with them, not a countries fault for harboring them. Think about it, why are we protesting the Olympic Torch now, why have we not been protesting certain Chinese issues all along? Let’s hope the next President protects Americans a little better than the last one.
