Iraqis Profit From Oil While America Pays The Price

Big Oil companies are not the only ones enjoying oil riches, so is Iraq, which begs the question, why are American taxpayers struggling when Iraqis are living high on the hog at our expense. Talk about double jeopardy, Americans are paying for rebuilding efforts in Iraq and buying American and Iraqi forces in Iraq oil and gas while all the time Iraq is actually selling their gas on the open market and pocketing the cash. Next time you hit a pothole and flatten your tire remember that your state is broke so that Iraq can horde more of their own oil profits, makes you sick doesn’t it? And mind you, while the rich are getting richer the poor and middle class are getting poorer. Since the late 1990’s the wealthiest portion of Americans have seen their incomes rise by 9% while American middle and low class have declined by approximately 2.5%. No wonder the Republicans want their man in office, he is making the rich richer and the poor much more subservient. Mind you this is not all Republicans but can any level minded Republican look me in the eyes and say that for anyone other than big-wig CEO’s and upper management, which most Republicans are, has the American economy really provided hope and prosperity the last decade?

Democrats apparently plan to push legislation this spring that would force the Iraqi government to spend its own surplus in oil revenues to rebuild the country and this should be supported by all, its about time we free up U.S. tax dollars for our own infrastructure, or even just the money to fund states to fix potholes. Senator Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has stated that Iraq is looking at a potential boon in oil revenue this year which he says may top out at over $100 billion in 2007 and 2008. This begs the follow up question as to why the U.S. military is having to buy its fuel on the open market, and spending around $150 million a month in Iraq on fuel alone to protect these oil rich countries that are profiting at our expense of both blood and dollars. Iraq pays for fuel for its own troops but provides nothing to American soldiers while at the same time taking our American tax dollars for some form of aid and providing this money to create jobs for their own people for basic services and reconstruction. Excuse me but my tax dollars are for America and they should not be spent in Iraq on things that Iraqi’s can pay for themselves, especially when they give their soldiers gas but make us pay. Poor and middle-class families are entering the recession in a tough position and I want, no I demand, my tax dollars be spent on Americans to help Americans, not Iraqis who are profiting at our expense.
