Global Issues Hit Americans Hard

The world’s problems will soon be exacerbated by the spread of industrialization and modernization through the so-called global economy. The world’s water supply, as well as the food sources in the water supply, are being stretched to thin to fast and we will all pay a price if globalization and modernization do not slow down. We are utilizing more fresh water than is available and this is actually resulting in a global catastrophe based on water supplies. In addition to the water is the seafood we are taking from the water supplies. We have over fished the worlds oceans and seas to a point where there are actually areas where there is no life at all, do not believe me well consider the recent salmon runs off the West Coast of the United States.

The astonishing collapse the West Coast’s biggest wild salmon runs has sparked concern by government officials and has even prompted cash-strapped fishermen to call for an unprecedented shutdown of salmon fishing off the coasts of California and Oregon. See while everyone works on being green they are missing the point that more green and green is being removed from the Earth by deforestation and land development and if we do not slow down to let Mother Nature catch up we will destroy the world as we know it. Unlimited demands on limited resources are much more devastating than global warming and greenhouse gases but don’t tell China, India, the United States, and Europe that, business must expand at all costs and anything to the contrary is just detrimental. People dismissed Ted Turners rant last week in regards to the perils facing humanity but if you eliminate his delivery and some of his outlying statements you will see that under his bell curve is a message of truth and concern and it is something that not only Americans, but the world, needs to address.

Remember that less than 1% of the world’s water is readily available for direct human uses and most countries are not spending in this area for improvement or modernization. This 1% of water is used for agriculture, drinking, and energy generation. Globalization is increasing competition for water but is not helping produce more of a supply and this is a natural resources on which we all life on Earth depends. Billions of humans do not have adequate sanitation services to address modern needs and water-borne diseases are now said to be killing over three million humans a year but do we care? We just say turn the lights off, or drive slower, we do nothing to address the water issues and the problems following it. Industrializing and modernizing many areas of the world are resulting in pollution from towns and cities resulting from increased industry and agriculture which is actually polluting and destroying water supplies for people and freshwater ecosystems. When you destroy the water you destroy life on all levels and eventually this will result in major problems for humans throughout the world. Waste water containing cyanides and heavy metals are being flushed into freshwater rivers, diversion of water for agriculture and industry results in a depleted freshwater supply and a polluted return is destroying freshwater lakes and rivers.
