When a ship is sinking I always thought the morally correct thing to do was save the woman and children first. However, it appears that our modern Government is more apt to bail out Big Businesses such as Bear Sterns and others rather than to save the poor citizens of America caught up in this horrifically ran economy. Now the far right will say it’s not Governments job to run business in America and they are right. However, elected politicians are considered to be the caretakers of the economy and this is where their responsibility comes in and their excuses go away. See politicians should not create business but they should cultivate a climate for it; make an environment where growth is encouraged and nurtured. However, when we consider Governments caretaking of our economy we see that they are failing because they are allowing Big Business to export jobs freely and import back products cheaply, this is not what they are supposed to do but it is what the lobbyists for Big Business want and that is what politicians are doing right now. See today it is American Axel, or Jones Manufacturing, but tomorrow it will be you and yours.
The Republicans said there are jobs Americans won’t do but what they forgot to tell you is that your job supports the jobs Americans won’t do and when the jobs Americans won’t do went away so did the future prospects of yours. If you are not in a manufacturing job then you most likely work in a position which is supporting or affected by manufacturing and if there is no manufacturing to support then there is no need for you and thereby your job position, so say bye-bye. The good news is that you have a choice; you can try and save your job and your country by becoming politically active. You need to discuss the tough issues, write your Senators and Congressmen, talk to your friends and let them know that relying on imports is not the way to prosperity but to fatness and laziness, participate in “Made in America’ rallies, and do more to support domestically made American products. You can sit there and just hope but eventually you will get the tap on the shoulder or the pink slip on the desk, or you can fight for your future and do something, get out there and take back your future, do not let it be dictated to you.
