War: What Is Iraq Really Good For?

Do you remember the idiots who used to say war is good for the economy? Well that thought went out with disco, cigarettes in the sleeves, and the pet rock, or at least we thought it did. However, a very intelligent man in my eyes, President Bush, recently stated on the Today show that, “”I think actually the spending in the war might help with jobs … because we’re buying equipment and people are working.” And I quickly heard a retort from the crowd state, ‘Yeah but dead Joe can’t flip burgers my man so war is definitely not the answer.’ The war in Iraq is second on voter’s minds while the economy now takes the top spot but to tell you the truth the war in Iraq should be tenth or eleventh on voter’s minds by now. Why you might ask? Well it’s because we need to move on to more important things vital to American lives and the war in Iraq and Afghanistan has done nothing but diminish American resources and our ability to live a great American life.

War, what is it really good for?

The soldiers should always be first in our hearts but the war itself needs to be ended and it needs to start to become a memory and settle to a different place in American history, we need to quit writing new chapters and bring this novel to a close. Positive production has long ago ceased in the Middle East and we need to refocus our efforts on issues which can improve Americas’ current problems rather than deepen existing ones. We have our embassy in Yemen being mortar attacked, we have Israel still under constant rocket fire from Palestine, we have the Taliban killing prominent figures in Pakistan, and we have the Taliban and al-Qaeda entrenched in strongholds in Afghanistan.

Now some may point to Iraq as a shining star but if not for the cease fire by Muqtadr al- Sadr then we would be no further ahead there as well. We have sacrificed brave sons and daughters and orphaned hundreds of children, isn’t it time we just end this war and move on? We went to war based on two issues, weapons of mass destruction and a link between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda, well there were no WMD’s and the Pentagon just released a report saying there was no link between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda. Let’s be honest, we all wanted to go in and show Saddam we had him the first time and we did that, we should have left immediately but we did not do that. However, we thought we could stay and do some good by spreading democracy in a country which apparently wants no democracy and even when they told us they did not want our democracy we still told them to keep thinking on about it.

America is in the Middle East because Saudi Arabia and the richer areas such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi want us there. However, we are not their bitches, we are not global security guards, and we should not be protecting those who do nothing to protect themselves. In the most recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll conducted, 71 percent said they think U.S. spending in Iraq is a reason for the nation’s poor economy and many major financial experts agree with the results of the poll. Rich Middle Eastern countries have it both ways, they get the protection from fundamentalists by American forces while also acquiescing to Islamic extremists who assault the American forces, these bastards are getting their cake and eating it too, and out or expense.

I support our troops and you should as well. However, we should all support them by saying to them that they did everything we asked and more and they should be proud, and as a show of our appreciation they should be welcomed home as hero’s, immediately. Soldiers carry out the missions they are presented and on this all of our armed forces have done admirably and now its time our Government shows the respect for our armed services that we do and bring them home from the midst of these cowards and bastards who are having their cake and eating it to. It’s time we rebuild America and restore American greatness. Let’s hope the next elected president and their fellow politicians get their head out of the desert sand and restore America much like Reagan did after Carter.
