Usually I am the first one to say athletes should not be involved in politicos but let’s chalk one up for the Olympic athletes who are abstaining from the Beijing Olympics in China to protest the pollution and human rights issues. These athletes are standing up against meaningful issues that Big Business does not want to address.
Big Business does not care about forced sterilization, police beatings, child slavery, sex slavery, corporate pollution and poisoning of innocent villagers, lead paint, tainted drugs, and many other atrocities. Big Business has not conscience and no soul but the many Olympic athletes do and they are saying that they cannot participate in such a virtuous event in the Olympics in a country so morally corrupt. From now on these Olympic abstainers are my hero because they are doing what spineless politicians and companies are afraid to do, they are standing up for the gooder right rather than the pursuit of profit at any cost.
And what has Big Businesses pursuit of China created? A fallen dollar, a devastated economy, and numerous other tragedies. The American dollar has hit an all-time new low against the Euro and the Yuen and gas prices have hit all time new highs. In addition we have the worst mortgage default problem in the history of the world as well as a growing unemployment rate and a declining consumer confidence. In addition to all this we have taken a federal surplus and in just over 7 years taken this surplus and turned it into the world’s greatest ever federal deficit.
Take all this in and you see that our politicians as well as our business leaders have failed us here in America. However, you have hundreds of politicians asking us to re-elect them as well as numerous CEO’s claiming they deserve their high rates of pay. Just who is accountable for this mess we are in? If you listen to CEO’s or politicians it is the other guy, but who is this other guy? Big business uses their lobbyists to buy the politicians and this creates an un-holy alliance which has worked together to outsource American prosperity and destroy the American dream. We need politicians who will stand up once again for domestic America and we need new companies emerging who will keep their business in America.
Numerous CEO’s claim to be holier than thou on the environment but all this is is a distraction to make you forget that they are shipping our jobs overseas to countries where pollution and poisoning is rampant, slave and child labor is the norm, and human rights are a joke. We need an Olympic effort to stop the atrocities committed in China and maybe the world’s Olympic athletes are just the ones to show us the way.
Can you make an Olympic effort?
The Olympic games should be boycotted by everyone.
I feel, in helping with the 2002 Winter Olympics in SLC, that I am going to shut off my TV and not watch the Olympics this year. I have been a big fan of the Olympics, but not of the Olympic committee if they are not going to put a stop to the Tibet issue. I think that everyone should email NBC and let them know that they are going to watch other stations while they broadcast the games.
