With partnership, outsourcing, and importing so big with China what will Americans do when China attacks Taiwan and America has to defend Taiwan? Will our brave boys and girls be facing bombs stamped ‘ Made in China’? Will the same country who sells so much ‘Made in China’ product actually turn their manufacturing prowess on you and me? Do we really think China will allow the free flow of manufactured goods to continue to be sent to the United States when the United States stands up with Taiwan to protect Taiwan?
We are sworn to the defense of Taiwan and Taiwan is destined for independence and China has declared that if Taiwan seeks official independence it will invade so where does that leave us? Are we empowering now our future foe? Now the United States must be careful here because we supported the break up of the USSR, the unification of Germany, and the independence of Kosovo, we cannot two-face it on Taiwan. However, with so much dependence now on China what would happen to imports and manufacturing if and when the war breaks out with China and Taiwan? What side will global American businesses doing business in China take? Will auto manufacturers and industrial manufacturers help the Chinese by continuing to create products which will be used to support China during its war with Taiwan?
There is no way this can be morally justified but it is a scenario that is soon to take place. China again warned that Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian will pay a dear price if he continues with current pro-independence plans and by a dear price they do mean a military slaughtering of any independence or independent supporters. Warnings are now coming from the National People’s Congress and the world must not take these warnings lightly. China will never give up Taiwan and yet Taiwan feels it is destined to be independent and therein lays the issue, who will choose what side when this issue erupts into war?
Beijing considers the self-governing island of Taiwan to be Chinese territory and has threatened military attack repeatedly throughout the years if Taiwan tries to formalize its independence. The next presidential elections in Taiwan will include a referendum asking its people if they feel that Taiwan should try to join the United Nations under that name instead of using its formal name of the Republic of China. China sees the U.N. referendum as a small step towards a slippery slope of formal independence and they are using the most sternest of warnings to prevent this. Not if but when the war in Taiwan occurs, which side will the company you work for or shop at support? Will they be selling to you while sleeping with the enemy?
What will you do?
Trading punches with the Chinese isn’t something that anyone would want or look forward to. It’s very difficult to justify the loss of an American life in Iraq and this would be no different, but if you looked at this strictly from the perspective of working class America it’s a good thing. Every American citizen currently relies on goods and services from countries like China whether we want to or not. Its everywhere and you can’t get away from it. Loosing or lessening the ability to import goods from China would be like cutting the umbilical cord. We would be forced to break some of our dependencies and have to struggle to find a way to produce the things we need. We may have to pay a little more but I think people would be happy to if it came with a “Made in America” sticker.
