Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke advised Congress that legislators should endorse a fiscal stimulus package to help struggling consumers become active in the economy as recession fears grow. However, what Ben Bernanke and every other shortsighted politician in Washington is missing is that it’s not the buying it’s the building and manufacturing that is the problem. Why pump more money into an economy when all of the buying will just go back to China or India via purchased foreign products? Our money gets poured in and then like a tidal wave it rushes out to foreign countries whose manufactured goods we have purchased. More money today means more money sent overseas tomorrow and this tactic does not properly address the underlying problem which is destroying the American economy. What we need is federal investment in domestic programs that would create domestic jobs which would provide Americans the ability to earn a living and then spend their money in the American economy. What good does it do to give us a few dollars today which just gets spent on imports from overseas? The problem is not buying, it is jobs, and we need job creation. Our next President better work with Washington to stop the job leakage, which is the only way America will have a stable economy that is reliable. The comments by Bernanke, before the House Budget Committee, offers only a blasé explanation of the bad economy and a not enough band-aid resolution to stop the major economic problem. Many are still trying to blame America’s economic woes on housing and subprime loans but the financial and manufacturing sectors are now hurting as well and the problem is that we have outsourced and eliminated so many jobs that Americans are defaulting on all types of loans and the few Americans still lucky enough to be earning weekly paychecks are beginning to save and hoard and this exacerbates the problem. We need jobs not just piles of money, we need elimination of free trade and other unbalanced trade practices. Lastly, we need a President who will resist Big business and work towards the good of Americans. What good is an American company if all it does is outsource and cut American labor? We need a new President who will enforce economic policies for the betterment of Americans and not quasi-American businesses that keep buying out and outsourcing our jobs. If you want to do business in the future in America you will have to build in America, that should be the new economic stimulus package.
Don’t you agree?
