Toycott Affects Holiday Sales Of Imports

Who says nothing can be done to save American jobs and American solidarity? Just look at what the wonderful people who have started the Toycott have accomplished. Federal regulators this week have highlighted a broad array of possible toy safety hazards, including the lead-based paint that forced manufacturers to recall millions of toys over the past few weeks but the Toycotters have been all over this list for some time now.

The wonderful people who started the Toycott are exhibiting what has made America great, the ability to take a stand and not acquiesce to Big Business and Big Businesses overriding attempt at dominating our hearts and minds.

Santa will have a much lighter bag this Christmas thanks to parents boycotting toys that were made in China. However, the bag will be much safer and that is what is important. Recent recalls of flawed and lead tainted toys have caused many Americans to say they will avoid any product with the ‘Made in China’ label this holiday shopping season.

The numerous recalls and warnings have made consumers weary of Chinese manufactured products to the point that nearly half of all American shoppers this holiday season will avoid purchasing any toys with the ‘ Made in China’ label. Numerous polls of large consumer bases have shown that American consumers will be carefully looking for the ‘Made in China’ label and avoiding it.

The polls have shown that approximately 47 % of Americans will avoid buying any Chinese made products. I am glad to see that Americans are standing up for the safety of their children and the integrity of their country. If our Government won’t stop the influx of deadly imports then we will do it for them. This is the type of grassroots movement which reminds us that we can still rage against the machine and make a difference.

However, the Toycott has become much more than a grassroots movement, it is now a major topic for major media outlets and the Toycotters are gaining steam.

Chinese toys account for more than 80 percent of all the toys sold in the United States but maybe this will be the beginning of a change, a change for the better. Maybe we can instill some hope that now toy manufacturers will bring some business back to America and maybe we will buy their American made products. Militant parents scouring labels should not be the rarity but it should be the norm. These people are not in the wrong; they are very much in the right.

They are caring for their children and their Childs safety; you should be ashamed if you do not do the same. I urge you to research the Toycott and join the Toycotters. Millions of Americans are spooked by all the recent Chinese recalls and they have vowed to not bring in deadly toys to their homes just to save a dollar or two. The most vigilant of Toycotters appear to be in New York where parents have created a high demand for non-Chinese toys.

These shoppers are hunting down American made products such as wooden building blocks, bicycles, and video games. Many stores are responding to the Toycott by erecting signs listing each toy’s country of origin and you need to ‘ Buy American’.

Numerous shop owners are stating that anything not made in China is in hot demand and that tens of thousands of American shoppers have voiced their concern about deadly Chinese toys and imports. People are afraid, very afraid, and this is how they respond. They are doing what needs to be done and we applaud them for this.

Consumer groups have repeatedly warned that they found abundant cases where toys that posed a choking hazard or lead danger had improperly made it to store shelves in spite of recalls. Nancy Nord, acting chief of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, wants consumers to visit their site atwww.cpsc.gov. to find the current list of dangerous toys.

In a four-day investigation of toys it purchased at various stores such as Target, Wal-Mart , and The Disney Store, the Center for Environmental Health found that almost 10% of the toys it purchased had high lead levels of 900 parts per million or more. Let these types of investigations be your warning.

For some real positive news on this topic, it is great to report that California Attorney General Jerry Brown is suing 20 companies in state court for selling toys containing unlawful quantities of lead. Some of the stores being sued include Mattel Incorporated, and Toys “R” Us.
