Congress has threatened to hold back war funding unless a troop withdrawal is tied to the funding. In a very sharp response there was word that if the funding was halted there would be base closings and layoffs which would directly affect bases throughout the world and directly in the United States. How dare this partisan bull crap jeopardize the safety of us as Americans and for hard working Americans forced to suffer through stress because of the threat of them losing their jobs. Is all of this really happening because we just can’t seem to end a failed policy in Iraq? Is the White House and the Pentagon really ready to close child care centers, libraries, family and youth activities for our armed forces families? Would they really suspend transportation and custodial services at Army bases? And worst of all, the most sickening revelation of all, is the threat to close counseling services for returning soldiers and their families. It’s bad enough our brave men and woman are losing their jobs while serving and the revelation that 25% of Americas’ homeless are veterans is really upsetting but to blatantly end funding is unacceptable. This war in Iraq has crippled an economy, ripped the very fabric of America in half, and now it threatens to destroy our own humanity, when will this end? And not only will we experience devastation here in America but all of our work abroad will be destroyed as well. The current Administration is willing to funnel the money from the Armies foreign services to the Iraq war effort if that is what it comes down to. The Army will be unable to meet its NATO obligations and will have to eliminate all civilian and contractor support for its European and Southern Commands and forces stationed in Europe and Asia. This revelation is disgusting and how can such extreme measures even be considered much less threatened? Iraq is a waste and to throw good money after bad is not worth the devastation the Administration will bring to Americans if they divert needed Army funds to Iraq from their needed areas. This threat will place a horrendous load on soldiers and their families as well the ability for the Army to function as an ongoing entity.
It’s time we find a President, a Congress, and a Senate who will worry about America and stop sacrificing American prosperity for foreign countries which have little or no real allegiance to the United States. We cannot afford to be the welfare helper to the world. In case anyone hasn’t noticed, China and India are stealing us blind and if we do not address our own economic issues we will soon be at the mercy of those we are supposedly trying to protect. Let’s get it in gear and stand up to idiotic responses like the one we are discussing here. We cannot end all Army activity based on a threat because of War funding. I dare you to go to Arghhh and tell them the funding will be cut.
