We wonder why people are becoming less faithful in their Government, well whether it’s local or global, Government is really operating lately with its head up its 4$$#0!&. A tale of two idiotic behaviors which are leading the world to the brink of chaos, the Republican Party and their veto battles and the United Nations Global Warming policy are two issues which easily show why we are all losing faith in politics and world leaders. On the global scale, the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon recently visited Antarctica and told global warming summit delegates there that global warming will be a central concern of his term as head of the world body. However, Mister Secretary must remember that his previous pledges to help developing nations enter into modern technology and living conditions conflict with global warming concerns and will only push the world into a worsening global warming position. You can’t eat your ice cream in a blast furnace Mister Secretary so which way is it going to be? Are we going to further develop the world and push towards global extinction or are you going to slow down industrialization of the world and really address global warming? Why have you been so silent on Chinese and Indian pollution controls Mister Secretary, your silence is deafening on the subject? Then you have the more localized situation where President Bush has been struggling over a lost veto battle from last week on a water projects bill. The President and his Republican allies are lining up and planning on putting a halt on important legislation as a sign to democrats that they did not like the veto vote issue. The Republicans were supposed to be the fiscal party when they came to power but GOP allies in Congress are now known for creating a gigantic Government spending problem and doing little to promote fiscal responsibility. Additionally, these Republicans are sticking with President Bush in another veto showdown over government spending. Don’t snicker just yet Democrats, you guys are struggling to finish this year’s spending bills for Cabinet departments and this should be the easiest of your Washington tasks, the spending bills are the most basic tasks for a Congressman and these new democrats have not even completed their easiest of tasks. We must also remember that the Democrats know how to use the veto hammer much like President Bush does. Not too long ago President Clinton used veto after veto to beat Republicans down during the 1990s.
We elect Congress, the Senate, and the President to protect America and to promote American values and Americas’ economic prosperity. However, Washington politics are becoming anything but protective, successful, or prosperous. As we divide a nation we weaken a country. It’s bad enough we have the United Nations allowing India and China to pollute the world while also turning a blind eye to the horrendous atrocities in Darfur. But then on a more localized level we have our own American Government talking out of both sides of their mouth and doing nothing positive for American citizens as they fight a battle of political will and partisan rhetoric. Just how much mediocrity can we tolerate before our civilized fabric begins to unravel? It’s time we forced our politicians to get it together and get their act straightened out. It’s time someone is held responsible to the American tax payer and the American tax payer gets some return on his tax dollars value.
