Are You Worth The American Bottom Line?

When does it pay to not pay for humanity? When it hits the bottom line. American politicians are following in the footsteps of their Chinese counterparts and they are allowing their citizens to be used and abused by big business as long as the business keeps on churning. Thousands of dislocated Southern California homeowners are losing their homes but their biggest problems will come months after the wildfires are extinguished, this is when they try to settle their insurance policy. Consumer advocates are already working the airwaves and advising Californians that insurance firms may draw a line in the ashes and take a hard line with their policyholders who are suffering because of the California wildfire disaster.

These gigantic money making behemoths will try to skimp on claim payments and then add insult to injury by refusing to write new policies altogether. Maybe the Government could send a billion less to Africa or Iraq or Afghanistan and help these fellow Americans out. I’d much rather pay for housing for Americans than anyone else. Remember, Insurance companies together grossed almost $7 billion in homeowner insurance premiums and almost $20 billion in auto premiums, in California alone.

Politicians should not allow them to take the reward without standing up to the risks. Our Government needs to stand up big time for us on this one and you better make sure they do or you may be the one getting screwed next. And if you don’t think big business could care less, just look how we jump into bed with Chinese companies who are openly poisoning their own with cancer. Have you ever heard of Cancer Village on your Chinese Travel brochures? Cancer Village is a small collection of huts and farms in southern China located on a rivers banks.

The river provides beautiful rust colored water which citizens of Cancer Village have to use to water their crops. Liangqiao is the proper name for Cancer Village and the residents of Liangqiao say their river is polluted from the iron-ore mine about 35 miles away. This mine company is run by a nationally owned company. Twenty-eight people in this village of 400 have died during the last 10 years from cancer and this is alarming because the overall mortality rate for China is 2006 was .0013 per hundred thousand humans. How does this affect you? Well according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the United States imported over $4 billion dollars of seafood and farm products from China in 2006.

Don’t you think a lot of this was cultivated using some of the same dirty water the poor Chinese citizens being exposed to cancerous material are using? This is not just one river; China has numerous rivers with the same problems. Recently, the United States banned various types of fish and shrimp from China because officials found traces of cancer-causing chemicals and antibiotics in the products. But lobbyists are hammering hard on Congress to let more in and like idiots many of us buy this.

How bad do we have to get? Letting homeowners lose their houses and then letting the insurance companies screw us. Not to mention how our politicians let us get screwed by big oil companies and deadly Chinese imports such as lead toys and cancer causing fruits and vegetables.

When will this end? When will someone be accountable? Will our next elected President in 2008 do more for Americans than we are currently getting or will it be more of the same? And let’s not let Congress or the Senate off the hook, they need to step up as well.

It’s not a Democratic or Republican problem its an American problem and we need answers.
