The problem with the price of oil is that it keeps consumers from spending their hard earned dollars on other purchases and this slows the economy down regardless of where you live. This is not a don’t ask don’t tell problem, this is an issue that needs American attention and an American response. The price of oil is being manipulated by traders the world over who see the oil speculation as a way to turn a buck in a modern world where stocks and bonds do not have the glitz and glamor they once did.
The big oil companies stay out of the issue because they cash in big time either way and by keeping quiet they will just ride the wave to another record earnings year at your expense. However, the problem is, we as consumers suffer the brunt of the rich mans speculative game and this is not fair.
Remember, as the price of gas goes up so does the production cost of a good and this will creep back down to you to as well. I do not mind a fair wage for a gallon of oil but there is no reason for oil to be near $90 a barrel. It does not cost the oil companies one penny more today than it did last year to produce a barrel of oil so why is the price at $90 and not $50? Easy, because market makers are playingthe oil futures like a ponzi scam or a pyramid scheme.
They are abusing the system and it is a shame because we are so reliant on this need. We also need to ask congress to look into what happens when speculation pops up the price of oil but the speculative event never occurs or gets resolved and the price of oil goes back down, where does that money go?
Why aren’t we reimbursed for the gouging that occurred based on speculation? How can this be legal? If we pay more because a wind gust was supposed to know down a barrel and then the wind gust dies down and the barrel stands, why don’t I get some of my money back? Why should oil companies just get to keep this? Is oil a license to print money? What next, will they also start wanting to pillage and rape our villages for a barrel of oil as well? This is ridiculous and it needs to end.
I also want to know why there is not more of a push for ethanol in America. I don’t care if it is not the most energy positive alternative, it creates American jobs which we need and it creates an energy source that will be stable and reliable and affordable. I sure hope the next elected president in 2008 addresses our energy concerns as needed. What do you think? Couldn’t we use a better energy policy in America that also creates jobs that cannot be outsourced? Even England is feeling the energy pop. Let’s do something as Americans to resolve this problem or is big oil lobbying halting these efforts?
Where are the answers?
