The state of Michigan faced a budget crisis and how did they resolve it? They raised taxes. Is that the answer to what is really an economy balancing on a slippery slope? Is raising taxes the best we can do right now? If America thinks it can survive by raising taxes then we are all in trouble. What Michigan, and all other American states like Michigan, need are new jobs and new businesses. Governments are going broke throughout the United States because of the dwindling tax base brought on by the advent of outsourcing. The current way to address this problem is to raise our taxes but this only suppresses the symptoms it does not cure the illness. Rather than a plan of raised taxes we need new plans and new legislature which make keeping jobs in America more advantageous. We need a competitive America not an over-taxed America. Taxation without representation is why America was formed but now we have a similar situation growing in the United States. Those of us lucky enough to still be working are being taxed again and the representation we get from our elected officials is virtually null and void. There is twice as much talk in Washington about Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, and many other sovereign countries but in reality there is very little about what is going on right here in America. We see no real job creation legislation, we see no real education legislation, what are we getting for our raised taxes? Many say vote the incumbents out until the elected politicians get it. I usually say that is a stupid naïve answer but lately I am drifting towards that idealism. If my elected official is not fighting for me then why should I stand up for them? It’s time we make a new type of decision, not a Democratic decision, or a republican decision, or even an independent decision, its time we make an American decision. Case in point, we our latest home index that forecasts near-term home sales showing that sales fell in August to a record low and economists are saying the housing market’s woes show no sign of improving soon, and whats this about raising taxes to support the Iraq war?
