GM And UAW At Odds For America

Michigan has lost so many jobs it cannot even meet its state budget and we are left to ask, ‘How many more jobs will America lose?’ Can the unions save the American Middle Class Worker? The United Autoworkers Union just might. The united Auto Workers Union has authorized a strike at General Motors and even though popular opinion says the two sides are close in all reality they are anything but and many say that the UAW strike is really a microcosm of things to come for the average American worker as many middle class Americans struggle to maintain their jobs and lifestyle working for companies they helped build the last half a century in the United States. However, many American companies are now cowardly hiding under the term ‘ multi-national’ company and they are axing American jobs at an alarming rate. These bastard companies are closing American plants and outsourcing the work. These yellow bellied companies then have the nerve to ship the products back into America and say they are selling American made products. Many say the UAW is taking a stand for its own greed, many say they are taking a stand for the average American worker who is getting beat down by job losses and through outsourcing and job sourcing. Is this a simple contract negotiation or is it much more? Regardless of the exact reason, thousands of United Auto Workers walked off the job at GM plants throughout the United States Monday morning in what is the first nationwide strike during auto contract negotiations since 1976. I wonder how many global plants walked out. If not, why not? Shouldn’t these global workers support each other or has GM become a house divided? UAW President Ron Gettelfinger stated that the union chose to strike after so called ‘one-sided negotiations’ resulted in a failure to reach a new contract agreement.

Gettlefinger stated, ‘It was going to be General Motors’ (GM) way at the expense of the workers…The company walked right up to the deadline like they really didn’t care.’UAW workers are now picketing outside GM plants in U.S. facilities such as assembly and parts plants and warehouses.

Can the UAW strike a blow and score a victory for the average American worker? Let’ hope so.
