Who would have ever thought we would see the day where the “loonie” — named for the Canadian bird depicted on the one-dollar coin — could be exchanged 1-for-1 with the greenback (American dollar). However, today is the day. Is this the economic leadership people voted for in 2000 and 04? And conservatives, you can’t lay this on 9/11 because we supposedly had a resurge soon after 9/11. Canadians are stating their unbridled pride in their own economy while bustling about going on shopping sprees in the United States, they sound like cackling teenagers who just found a fifty o nthe floor and are headed out to Big Lots to get the most for their dollar. Is this what America has become? Are we the economic Big-Lot of the world? After the Canadian dollar reached parity with the U.S. dollar for the first time since 1976 the world is looking at the American economy and American economic leadership sideways. How can America allow itself to economically deteriorate to a point where it is now a national joke? Free Trade this, Global Trade that, Jobs Americans Won’t Do, New Jobs, Future Jobs, what is all this BS talk? We have allowed ourselves to outsource jobs and an import product to a point where the American dollar is now useless. Toronto freelance writer Ayah McKhail stated, “Everywhere you go in the world, the American dollar is just seen as the strongest one (currency)…So to feel that, as a Canadian, our dollar is finally there, it’s very exciting.” Mind you, the dollar is also weak against the 13-nation Euro. The dollar plummeted to a new all time low against the Euro. The only silver lining is that the poor performance by the American economy and Government will make America a more competitive country because our value has declined and we have lowered ourselves towards the living standards of India and China rather than surged ahead like our forefathers did. Rather than become market leaders we are edging ever closer to becoming like the third world slave labor countries of Vietnam, China, India, etc,al… Is this what we really want for our children, for ours and their future? Jeff Rubin, chief economist and strategist at CIBC World Markets stated, “The Canadian economy that once used to be the sleepy little resource backwater of the North American economy is certainly turning the tables on its big brother in a hurry.”
Is this what we have to look forward to? Where is the real leadership in America? Who will lead us back to real prosperity and economic prowess? Who will create jobs that will not vanish within two to three years? Who will stop all of this outsourcing and importing and make America self reliable and strong once again? Which 2008 Presidential candidate will step up and address Americas’ real problems? While everyone is focuse on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Iran based on the 60 minutes interview, we also need to make sure we remember our problems right here in the United States. We need ot be economically strong to deal with idiot regimes regardless of where they pop up.
