The anniversary of September 11 is upon us and what have we learned? We have a war in Iraq that has no association with the events of 9/11 and yet somehow these events will be correlated throughout our nation on September 11, 2007. We have 10, 000 troops in Afghanistan and 160,000 in Iraq, which group is closer to Bin Laden? Rather than a fried Bin Laden we have Al Qaeda’s media arm announcing that it will release a new video of Usama bin Laden presenting the last testament of one of the Sept. 11 homicide hijackers, marking the sixth anniversary of the attacks. Why are there more troops further away from the racist mad man who perpetrated the attacks on America on 9/11 than there are in the proposed vicinity he operates in? We also have Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois now accusing the White House of twisting data to suit its needs as a way to further stay engaged in the Iraq war. Durbin stated, “By carefully manipulating the statistics, the Bush-Petraeus report will try to persuade us that violence in Iraq is decreasing and thus the surge is working.” Durbin’s criticism could be seen as partisan rhetoric except that his opinion was echoed by David Walker whom is the head of the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office. Mr. Walker has also raised questions about how the statistics were compiled. Mr. Walker testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee last Friday and stated that he is not comfortable with the methodology used to track the death toll motivated by sectarian violence. He stated that for instance, a body found with a gunshot to the front of the head is classified as an ordinary crime, while a body with a gunshot to the back of the head is attributed to sectarian violence. Walker concluded that anyone would expect such a methodology to return a reduction in sectarian violence. Then you have American funds being wasted in Iraq while America’s domestic borders still stay weakened and porous. Almost any idiot can sneak into the country via Mexico and the two explosions in Mexico on September 10th should make Americans fear the lawlessness and potential threat of terrorism in Mexico. On Monday a truck carrying more than 25 tons of dynamite exploded in northern Mexico, killing at least 23 people and injuring more than 140, a government spokesman said. Additionally in Veracruz Mexico you have several explosions believed to be the work of saboteurs blasting apart numerous natural gas pipelines, sparking numerous fires which have forced Mexican authorities to evacuate thousands of people and shut down two major highways. Yeah, unprotected and unsecured borders are exactly what we need with action like this occurring just outside our unprotected borders. While we waste billions in Iraq we are still as exposed to terrorism as we were on September 10, 2001. When will America look to itself and address its domestic issues first and take care of Americans with the hard earned tax dollars they give the Government rather than have the Government give away all of the money to Iraq and Afghanistan. Let’s honor America in the right way and protect it for future generations to come. Let’s finally do the right thing.
Many believe the war on terror is nothing more than big businesses way of creating the next hot market for goods and services. Many say lobbyists for big Businesses want America to stay the course in the Middle East because they see the Middle East as an earlier version of China or India and they want to take advantage of a potentially new market and they want the American military to rid the region of problematic groups before the businesses can swoop in. If this is the truth then shame on all of the lobbyists and politicians who support the further carrying on of this war.
Let’s honor the fallen of the events of 9/11 but let’s also make sure we take care of their families and friends by making sure that America and in particular domestic America is made economically and militarily strong. We need a better economy in America with a much better border security plan. We also need our military brought out of Iraq and into Afghanistan and Pakistan, and maybe Iran, or brought home.
