John Edwards Speaks To Save American Workers

Anyone not directly at the top of the executive pyramid knows that outsourcing and the words NAFTA and CAFTA have done nothing but cause misery and woes to the American worker and their family. Now 2008 Presidential hopeful John Edwards has let the cat out of the bag and he has recently began to openly criticize former President Clinton by stating that former President George Bush to a small degree and former President Bill Clinton to a more major degree both allowed corporate insiders to shape the 1993 North American Free Trade Agreement that he, as well as millions of Americans, feel has cost U.S. jobs. Outsourcing and Free Trade help to line the pockets of the fat cats but the majority of us are not in the fat cat position so support for the guy who says he will help keep your job safe is an important thing to look at when considering who your next President should be. Edwards went so far as to say that candidates should not accept campaign contributions from lobbyists and he challenged other candidates to refuse these contributions but Senator Hillary Clinton rebuked Edwards position and advised that there are many good lobbyist contributors as well as bad ones. The bottom line is, we need someone who will put American workers first and at least Edwards is talking a good game.

Edwards sharp comments were a bold move intended to emphasize Hillary Clinton’s relationship with special interests. Edwards stated, “It’s time that the president stood up and fought for American workers…It’s time to have a president that always puts the interests of the American people first…For far too long, presidents from both parties have entered into trade agreements, agreements like NAFTA, promising that they would create millions of new jobs and enrich communities…Instead, too many of these agreements have cost jobs and devastated towns and communities across this country.”

Edwards’ speech carefully did not mention the name Clinton but the indications are pretty obvious. Edwards believes that the NAFTA trade agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada was written by so called insiders in all three countries. Edwards’ words leave the impression that he feels big business has sold American workers out and he wants to change this.

From the comments made by Edwards it is obvious he feels that the policies of President George W. Bush along with the meddling of big businesses have hurt American workers and their families.
