The President vetoed the War spending bill presented by Congress and he stated that he hoped a better bill could be reached by Congress which would receive Presidential approval. However, what the President, and more importantly the Republican Party, must remember is that Americans are becoming more and more polarized about the war in Iraq and their real concerns are the outrageous price of gas and their uncertainty of their jobs future. Has the President been to tightly focused on Iraq and lost the big picture or has pubic opinion swayed in the wrong direction with little real basis for the outrage against the war. We must also ask when the real energy concerns of America will be addressed. Where is the Ethanol boom we were promised?
With rising gas prices comes inflation and a slowdown of the economy. America cannot tolerate either inflation or a slowdown of the economy at this point. America is still trying to recover from the downturn of the early 2000’s and smart minds need to make sure the economy stays on track and the energy concerns of America are addressed. We are fighting a war on terror but what we are forgetting is that rising oil prices put money in the hands of governments which support terrorism so by allowing the price of gas and oil to skyrocket we are inadvertently helping those we are actually fighting.
We heard so much about Ethanol in 2004 and 2006 because these were election years but now the rhetoric has gone away and so has all of the buzz and effort associated with the great Ethanol effort. Americans must make sure that the war in Iraq is justified and the war on Americans’ economy and energy needs is fought and won. We need to make sure we are fighting the right war in the right places.
For all of the fighting we are doing in Iraq we could still have two or three traitorous bastards side up with fundamentalists and allow hijackers onto planes in an attempt to recreate 9/11. We need domestic action in regards to fighting the war on terror not just foreign wars. We need to make sure we have tight airport security, proper background checks, and more law enforcement in association with air travel. The war on terror cannot and must not replace our vigilance at home. We should not feel safe by actions abroad. We need actions domestically, that’s how we will be safe.
It’s up to you. You need to make sure you voice your opinion that gas over $3 a gallon will force you to think twice about who you will vote for. You also need to make sure we are protected domestically and not spend all of our resources trying to secure Iraq. You must also make sure that America becomes the number one ethanol producer in the world, this is how we will be safe from terrorism globalization, and energy bullying.
