Soldiers Lives Are Worth More Than Popular Opinion Of Voter Polls

The House of Representatives and the Senate have both passed a spending bill which also calls for President Bush to start bringing home our soldiers very soon. However, the President feels this legislation is not viable to him and he has already advised he will not pass it. And now we have the ensuing catcalling by both sides of the war debate. One side says you are not supporting the troops with this type of legislation, which by the way is a ridiculous assertion. The other side says that nothing is being accomplished and the mission is so befuddled it should be declared defunct and ended, which may not be entirely right but does hold legitimacy with the majority of Americans. Many feel its time to address the major domestic issues facing America and end all of this world policing. How do you feel about all this? What is relevant to you? These two questions will shape the upcoming political election for our next President so you better think about them.

Osama Bin laden said he will make America bleed in the desert and many feel this phrase was symbolic more than it was a direct threat. Many see the division of Americans because of the war as well as the swelling federal deficit as what Bin Laden was actually referring to. Many Americans also feel that the Middle East is very disingenuous when it comes to America and that Americas’ sacrifices are way too much for what little gains are being attained from its Middle eastern missions abroad. Many also see the current Bush Administration as living in a Pollyanna world and not the world of the average American.

The threats and the accusations are flying hot and heavy in Washington and whether you choose to pay attention or not to all of the blabbering your life will be affected by the eventual outcome of this war issue. Your children’s federal school funding is tied to the money being used for this war. The DHS funding of poor housing and heating is directly affected by funds being directed to the war. Numerous civil programs offered for poor and disadvantaged children are being affected by the funding for this war. What you have to decide is how much of a price you are willing to accept and what event or occurrence will actually mark the end of this war.

Both Democrats and republicans know the war will weigh heavily on voters in 2008, the only question they have is what side the votes will be on. Regardless of what each political party says they will be clamoring for the popular vote next year. You can bet that as popular opinion polls sway one way or the other and so will the rhetoric on this issue. However, keep in mind, over 125,000 brave men and woman are the faces behind this issue and their life deserves to be based on much more than popular opinion voting polls.
