Gas Collusion Is Illegal

The price of gas is tied directly to the price of oil, or at least when the price of oil goes up it appears. However, the price of oil has been going down, and down, and down, recently but prices at the pumps are still staying artificially high. If collusion is illegal, then why has the United States Government not stepped in and punished the gasoline companies who are allowing their stations to charge these outrageous prices? Maybe if Congress was not busy worrying about non-binding resolutions on the Iraq war we could get something done here. It’s hard enough for Americans to afford holiday vacations but when the gasoline companies prey on the vacationers it is overwhelming. Why do gas companies get away with price collusion when in any other business or market this practice is totally illegal?

Oil companies in Canada say they can make a nice profit at $20 a barrel of oil, if this is possible then why are we paying $55 to $60 dollars a barrel? I do not believe it is what the market bares because the market would bare $30 and $40 just as well. We have been beaten into submission and asked to accept gas gouging just like we were told to accept illegal immigration, outsourcing, importing, and many other adverse policies.

Gas prices should be around .03 cents per dollar a barrel of oil. Therefore at $50 a barrel the price of gas should be only $1.50. However, the system used to set the price of gas has been thrown out the window and replaced with speculative economic indicators. No longer are gas prices based on scientific processes and numbers they are now based on economic speculation and this is how the greed has taken us over.

Utilizing the conventional system gas should never rise above .03 cents per dollar per barrel of oil. However, the greed process currently in place allows gasoline companies to charge around .044 cents per dollar per barrel of oil. This is illogical and unacceptable and it’s time we as Americans quit just giving up and instead do something about this.

How about we keep some of the global economic aid we give to the Middle East and spend it here in America subsidizing alternative fuel sources? Maybe we should use some of this aid money to upgrade American infrastructure and roadways. There are definitely things we can do and accepting gas gouging is not one of them.
