Where Are The Politicians With Their Heads Up Their Asses? We Sure Need Them Again

It’s time some of our political leaders get their head out of the sand and put it back up their ass where it belongs. Years ago the worst thing we could say about our politicians was that they had their head up their ass. In all honesty we usually said this as an affectionate tongue and cheek comment in regards to a domestic policy we disagreed with and not so much the person.

However, a large majority of American leadership has their head stuck in the sand in Iraq, Afghanistan, and it appears they are now eyeballing an ostrich hole in Iran. Meanwhile, America is experiencing a slowdown in job creation, real wage earning, and regardless of what Republican polls we read a real loss of confidence in our own economy.

Teach a man to fish and he eats forever, teach a country to rely on cheap imports and they will soon be forever fishing for their eating. We have devastated our own manufacturing base so much in America we are now at the mercy of China and India as you can see by the recent decline of the Chinese stock market. The Chinese stock market has a few bad days and all of a sudden it is dark days ahead for the United States. How did we ever allow ourselves to become so reliant on foreign manufacturing and energy, have we really been this stupid the past 20 years?

A major sell off in Chinese stocks hammered Wall Street on Tuesday but America should not have its futures and stocks so closely tied to China so maybe this is just the wakeup call America needed. I can see the American stock market taking a beating on the bad domestic durable goods order but we shot not be so devastated by what occurs in China. The economic readings discussed today showed a much weaker than expected domestic durable goods orders number. The orders fell a whopping 7.8 percent in January, much worse than the forecast of a 3 percent decline. This was just a pile on to the already trending down market. The downward economic signs are bad news for republicans hoping to regain some moxy before the 2008 Presidential election.

The funny part of this is that we buy all we can from countries like China and India but we mock and protest countries like Japan who actually build and provide jobs right here in America to Americans. As global companies like IBM, EDS, Ford, GM, and Wal-Mart outsource and import, Toyota is investing in domestic America. Toyota Motors is expected to announce that it will spend $830 million to build its eighth North American assembly plant in Tupelo, Mississippi.

When is the last time an American auto manufacturer built a new plant in the United States? Is it really o.k. to buy a Ford made in Mexico with parts forged in China or is it better to buy a Toyota which is built and fabricated right here in the domestic United States? It’s time we do the right thing and reward companies who create jobs in America and not American companies who outsource all of our manufacturing jobs. What good does it do to buy a Ford or GM when all of the labor money goes to a foreigner and all of the profit goes to the man who laid off the American worker for the foreign worker? Which company is really being loyal to Americans?

Then we have the energy issue, oil is back going through the roof and our politicians are doing nothing. It’s time we have real energy efforts and not State of the Union Mardi Gras speeches. We need substance not just pomp and circumstance.

Buy built by Americans made in America, send the message loud and clear that you have not given yup your future just yet. It’s time we put Americans back to work in America and stabilize our economy like it used to be.
