Jeff Gordon is my man but not because he drives a GM, it’s because I like his driving style. I like Kurt Busch as well and he drives a Dodge. Many used to be Michael Waltrip fans until he so called ‘defected to Toyota’. The Daytona 500 is being run in Daytona and the so called redneck rubbernecks are supposedly pissed that Toyota has invaded the so called All American sport. I heard one interview on television where the two fans at Daytona Speedway were asked why they hated Toyota and they answered it was because the money made at Toyota supposedly went back to Japan. Conversely these two southern gentlemen said the Ford and GM money stays here in America. While I can appreciate these two and their passion for NASCAR I have a hard time following their money trail back to the bank of Japan. Reportedly Ford and GM are spending millions in development projects throughout the world. Conversely, Japan is developing plants right here in the United States. While Ford and GM and even Chrysler are cutting American jobs in America Toyota is creating American jobs. Furthermore, I would like to ask why racing imports are so hated while the same individuals who hate them buy clothes and electronics made from outsourced labor. Which is worse, a foreign brand car made in America or an American labeled brand made by outsourcers in a foreign country? Now do you understand?
Jeff Gordon could drive the wheels of a Monte or a Camry, the style of car means very little to his real ability. However, the type of car the current NASCAR drivers are sporting does mean a lot to a lot of fans and maybe the fans need to look a little deeper than they are to see what the real problems are with the so called invasion of Toyota into the sport of NASCAR and for that matter the common everyday life of Americans.
I also wonder why Daimler Chrysler gets a free pass and does not feel the wrath of import haters. Isn’t Daimler a German company? Last I check Germany was a foreign country and therefore Chrysler basically has the same status as Toyota, a foreign ownership with a large manufacturing base in America. Is this so bad?
I hate that my beloved sport of NASCAR has become a forefront for the battleground of the war on the trade deficit but in reality it has. Passion runs deep in NASCAR and maybe more of America could use the NASCAR fans type of passion. These fans care about their American cars and their American status. However, the majority of Americans care a lot less unless it comes to their jobs directly. They wear pants made in China, shoes made in Vietnam, shirts made in India, while sitting in their chair made in Mexico while watching their television made in Taiwan. All the while they are bitching about a Toyota on the race track. At least the Toyota was made in America, the aforementioned items all were not. Toyota may not be the best answer for American job losses but hey sure aren’t the only cause of job losses in America.
You need to look to the technical sectors, the billing sectors, and the manufacturing sectors. These are the business fields where the truest of atrocities against American workers have occurred.
