Global Warming Versus Global Business, Who Will Win? Who Will Survive?

The world all agrees that global warming is being caused by human actions and that further action by humans in regards to manufacturing and energy production may potentially devastate the world. However, for the most part these agreements and warnings have fallen on deaf ears for two reasons, Big Oil Companies and China. The newest Global Warming report being discussed in France details that the world is burning itself up and human interaction with the environment is causing extreme effects to the world that is resulting in Global Warming as well as many other environmental problems. However, when you consider that Exxon Mobil Corporation posted the largest annual profit in U.S. history Thursday you can see why Exxon does not want globalization slowed. Big Oil spends a lot of lobbying money to make sure their interests are not deferred and hype of global heating do not grow to loud. Furthermore, China has spoken on numerous occasions that it does not want strict statements in Global Warming reports which directly ties its manufacturing and production emissions to greenhouse gas effects damaging the world. Numerous environmental groups cite China as the foremost environmental danger and many say that the Chinese purchasing power cannot hold the environmental truth back forever. People point to the Kyoto protocol but China and India are not bound by the protocol. Even if they did sign it completely they would be absolved of regulations for numerous years to come. The only answer is to create a new world policy before we actually destroy the world. We need to slow down manufacturing and production growth throughout the world and give the world a chance to catch up to humanity.

Exxon Mobil earned $39.5 billion, up from its previous record $36.1 billion in 2005. This is a fact you should not forget next time you fill up your gas tank. The President should make sure Americans are not being taken advantage of either economically or environmentally by the cash cow oil companies. 39.5 billion buys a lot of public opinion and for this reason environmentalists have not targeted big oil as much as you would think.

In regards to manufacturing, we have to look to China and India since they have terrible environmental protections in place and they are some of the world’s worst polluters. In Paris France officials from over 113 countries agreed that a much-awaited international report states that global warming was “very likely” caused by human activity. The official wording of the statement is still be worked on by dozens of scientists and bureaucrats who are acquiescing to China because China is afraid of a global backlash. The committee is editing the new report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) during closed-door meetings.

According to CNN, the last major global report, in 2001, said global warming was “likely” caused by human activity. There had been speculation that the participants might try to change the wording this time to “virtually certain,” which means a 99 percent chance. (Watch climate experts talk about our planet’s grim future ) But the Chinese delegation was resistant to strong wording on global warming, said Barbados delegate Leonard Fields and Zimbabwe delegate Washington Zhakata. China has increasingly turned to fossil fuels, which emit the greenhouse gases blamed for boosting the planet’s temperature, to feed its huge and growing energy needs. Delegates said the Chinese won the removal of the official definition of “very likely” from the text — although scientists are not changing the definition. The group also won approval for a footnote qualifying the “very likely” wording by suggesting it could change in the future: “Consideration of remaining uncertainties is based on current methodology.”

During the last State of the Union speech President George W. Bush acknowledged that global warming is occurring. The President still remains opposed to mandatory regulations to cap greenhouse gas emissions that many nations favor because countries like China and India are not bound by such agreements.

Is globalization and business expansion worth the extinction of humanity? You make the call.
