Not one penny more should be the phrase of the day for Americans in response to President Bush stating he wants another 10 Billion or so for re-supplying and reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan. How dare the President keep spending our hard earned tax dollars in a foreign country with no direct allegiance to the United States. We supported the government of Iran and look where it got us. We supported the government of Iraq in a subsequent war with Iran and look where it got us. We supported Afghanistan’s’ resistance to Soviet occupation and look where it got us. America is not alone in wasting time and money in the Middle East, even Israel tried to support a Lebanese movement once in Lebanon and when that went South all they really accomplished was an enabling of a terrorism faction. They say the money goes to fight the war on terror but what about all of the extremism being taught in our prisons right here in America? Islamic fundamentalism is rampant in American jails and we are doing nothing about it. While we waste billions in foreign misuse we are ignoring our own problems right here in America.
The majority of prisons are full of citizens who could not attain a decent paying job and had to turn to a life of crime to support their families. Imagine if we took the same 10 billion in aid and built ten billion dollars worth of Ethanol plants for these citizens. We could provide jobs, keep Americans out of jail, protect against the threat of domestic terrorism, and keep American money going to Americans. The plan is simple and it should be addressed immediately. Fundamentalism is growing in hundreds of our jails and we need to produce an alternative. Furthermore, the terrorists half away around the world still have to get to America, our prisoners and their families are already here. Which do you think really poses a more realistic threat.
How about taking this 10 billion and paying to have jobs created that will repave our streets and highways, this would keep people out of jail and reduce the risk of domestic terrorism. We could also use that money to create jobs burying our power lines so that we do not lose power every time the wind blows or a rain drop falls; this would create jobs and keep citizens out of a life of crime.
Sure the war on terror is important but why not spend a little in our own country so that we do not become a country of violence and fundamentalism? America cannot save the world; there will always be an idiotic government with an idiotic leader somewhere. We need to combat terrorism by creating jobs right here in America, if we do not we will be growing our own terrorists soon enough if we have not started already.
How right you are, how right you are. It’s a shame more people don’t see this issue like you, me, and others.
