President Bush gives State Of The Union Address

President Bush and the State of the Union address needed to go further in addressing American domestic concerns but at least a few of the hot topics did get touched on. To begin with, how can we accept defeat in America by acquiescing to illegal immigration and yet we cannot accept defeat in Iraq? This is exactly why myself and countless others say the current Government appears to care more about foreign policy than domestic concerns and this is why incumbents will suffer even greater losses in the next election. How dare any politician say we must just give up on border security and then turn around and say we cannot accept defeat in Iraq, what the heck is that all about?

How about saying border security will get the $400 billion spent on Iraq, I bet then we would have some security. In regards o energy, sure a plan to cut U.S. gasoline consumption by 20 percent is a great idea and so is bolstering our inventory of Strategic Petroleum Reserve, but we need more, much more. The president’s plan to cut gasoline by tightening fuel economy standards and reliance on alternative energy sources is a great idea but we need more, we need him to cut some of the Iraq financing and spend it on subsidies for companies entering into the alternative fuels markets in America.

Then there was the old faithful balanced federal budget rabbit along with the usual call for Congress to cut pet projects from appropriations, this is also predictable and basically nothing more than paid lip service. Issues involving Health Care and Social Security are good to discuss but in regards to AIDS in Africa, and issues with Iraq these are world concerns and should not dominate American politics as much as they do.

We want to know our borders will be safer, our jobs more reliable, our futures brighter, and our lives free of all the talk of war and terrorism that dominate it daily. We want to live the lives of Americans once again; we are tired of being preyed on by foreign outsourcing, foreign terrorism, and foreign idealism. We want to see companies and industries building factories and centers in America not bailing for any cheap slave labor camp they can find in the world.

We are tired of seeing only check cashing businesses and loan shark businesses opening anew; we want real job creation with a future not a pipe dream. Mister President you told us to get educated we have, you told us to work harder and we have, now we have to ask ourselves ‘what is our President and our Government now going to do for us?’ The State of the Union only wet our appetites, we are now ready to be fed and we want it all, a four course meal of success and we want it immediately.

The Presidents’ proposal to achieve a 20-percent cut in gasoline use in the next 10 years is admirable but how serious is he? The Bush proposal to have the U.S. produce 35 billion gallons of renewable fuel such as ethanol by 2017 is great but will President Bush put his money where his mouth is and fund the projects we need to get this kind of business going? Why shouldn’t we be as rich with Ethanol production as the Middle East is with oil production? A larger oil reserve will give the United States a reliable backup in times of crisis but we are tired of living for times of crisis, we want times of joy and success, what do we need for this?

Many say we seen a Lame Duck President give the State of the Union Address, others say it was a Daffy Duck President, either way he is our president and we need him to quit working for Iraq and work more for Americans. The President stood before Congress and the nation Tuesday in the face of angry citizens considered to be very dissatisfied with his leadership, some say by an almost 2-to-1 ratio. He can easily reverse his downward trend by helping get businesses started in America and by promising to fund or subsidize companies who start businesses such as alternative fuels creation right here in the United States. We want to love President Bush we really do, he just has to help us a little.

In regards to Global warming, the threat is real and the more we industrialize the world the worse it will get, PERIOD. Human-caused global warming is here, it is now visible in the air, water and melting ice, and the real bad news is that it is going to get even worse.
