Orange You Glad You Live In America?

California has been drilled by the recent harsh weather the United States has been experiencing and because of the bad weather California citrus farmers, as well as other fruit farmers, are experiencing the threats of severe losses and devastation. The losses are so bad that Governor Schwarzenegger has requested almost a billion in aid from the United States Government. Governor Schwarzenegger has stated that the devastation to growers is so bad in California it could affect not only this years growing but next years replenishment as well. I say give the state 2 billion. If we can send hundreds of billions to an Iraqi country that apparently has no appreciation for our sacrifice then why not immediately give Americans what they need in their time of desperation? I can’t see how American taxpaying dollars can be sent abroad with no problem but when it is spent on Americans it becomes a big issue. This is ridiculous and the United States Government needs to make sure President Bush does the right thing. The President gives so much to countries of foreigners you would think he could give a little to our own state which by the way contains a lot of foreigners itself. California is struggling as it is, let’s really see where the Presidents heart and head are.

We have a new Congress which has adjusted the minimum wage rate, the 9/11 commission recommendations, and the illegal immigrant issues, I can only hope they do not fail America when it comes to issues such as the California frost freeze disaster. President Bush also has a chance to shine up his image by stepping up big time and letting Americans know they are still his foremost concern. If the issue in California does not get addressed properly it will cause a loss of confidence in the American Government by American citizens.

If we can spend millions trying to prop up Iraqi fruit stands and bartering markets it should be of little concern to actually kick a few bills to our brothers and sisters in California. American’s pay taxes for American needs, there is no reason that California should be denied while Iraq gets all of the assistance we can afford and not afford. I personally wish there was a way I could earmark my taxes so that they were spent 100% on domestic American issues rather than spent throughout the world on God knows what projects for God knows who.

It’s time we as Americans take care of our own whe nthey are in a time of need.
