Jack Bauer may be brought back on Fox television to save the United States every year but just how close to 24 is America actually becoming? Have you noticed that the need for a Jack Bauer type and a CTU organization is growing more and more each year? If the war on terror was supposed to make us safe then why are we actually in more and more danger? Another important question I would like to ask is I wonder if it is just me or has anyone noticed how much the cast and crowd of Central America is beginning to resemble to Stalinist Russia of old. Venezuela, Bolivia, and Nicaragua are all beginning to centralize power through a dictator type government and all three countries are displaying hostility towards the United States. Throw in Cuba and you can see why concerns are starting to grow. Can anyone answer me why we have free trade with a region that is about as hostile towards us as Iran is? Have we looked across the pond for so long we have forgotten to check our own back yard? If Mexico continues toward its socialistic style reform we could see a vastly different playing field just south of Texas and California very soon. Americans believe it could never happen but if America keeps draining itself in the Middle East while doubling and tripling its debt with foreign countries we could become the next USSR, or have you already forgotten that Russia just a few years ago was the USSR? Russia is a great example of how fast a super-power can crumble if it neglects to take care of business domestically. I believe it’s time America focuses on America and addresses issues in its own hemisphere before we have hostility just south of our own domestic border.
Scoff if you want but just look beneath Mexico and tell me where America can find an ally. I know Jack Bauer ventured into Hispanic territory one season to save the world; will he have to go down there again soon? Maybe not Jack Bauer but we better get some Jack Bauer like figures down there soon. The majority of countries in Central America are indifferent towards the United States and quite a few governments are actually openly hostile towards the United States. We spend so much time trying to exploit the Middle East for big business concerns that we are actually neglecting our diplomatic efforts to maintain friendships in our own part of the world. If outsourcing bastards want to do business in third world countries let them do the groundwork. The American military is not for clean out and reconstruction in Indonesia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Our military is for fighting not for laying the pathway to economic prosperity for big businesses that just close up shop in America for cheap outsourced labor in countries with rebuilding efforts. It’s time we righted our priorities and work for what is best for Americans’ not for every Tom, Dick, and Swarnapoon trying to rebuild or create an economy.
We need to shore up American security at the borders. Jack Bauer and CTU do a wonderful job on 24 but we cannot expect them to save us in the 3 dimensional world. We need to create more high paying American jobs that will allow us more revenue for a more thorough American defense. We need to offer college education to American children at a more affordable rate so our children are educated and have more opportunities. Lastly, we need to make sure American tax dollars go towards rebuilding efforts in American cities like Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit and Los Angeles. How can we be rebuilding Iraq when Detroit is crumbling and New York is failing? Our infrastructures are so old and outdated they are almost condemnable.
I hope the new Congress and Senate see the errors of the past and they focus much more on our own domestic issues rather than just those half way around the world. Don’t get me wrong, terrorism is an important war to wage. However, we must take care of business while we wage this war or it will all be for naught in the end. I would also like to remind Washington that Jack Bauer and 24 are nice escapism but we need reality and in reality we need real protection and security.
