When scientists conduct experiments on potentially lethal diseases and exposures for humans they usually perform these experiments on frogs. Why? Because frogs are very responsive to change and they have similar responses to various stimulus as do humans. Therefore, when the most recent scientific reports detailed the death of a large amount of frogs it was very disturbing to the scientific community. Both sides of the Global Warming debate took head of the reports and both sides stated that regardless of their position on the Global warming issue the death of so many frogs is a sign that should not be ignored.
Numerous scientific studies have concluded the same thing, hundreds of species are dying off of the planet because there is no longer an environment, or an ecological system, to support the species. Many say we need to take heed immediately while others say it is not their problem because they will be long gone before evolution stars to exterminate the human species. However, for these boneheads who think nothing of their children and their children’s children I have news for you, the fast-moving deaths and adaptations are an enormous surprise to biologists and ecologists because the changes they are seeing are occurring so rapidly. You may not be as safe as you think.
We cannot have globalization without Global Warming; the two are intertwined and will never be separated. As we force more and more civilizations into the modern world we are creating our own disaster. We now have that much more heat, garbage, emissions, and consumption. How many trees does it take to oxygenize the world? I think someone better figure it out soon because numerous countries are logging themselves balder than Kojak to cash in on industrial growth in China and India. However, every time we lose a tree we lose a device that cools the earth and provides oxygen. Will it matter if we have condos in New Guinea, Africa, and Indonesia if we all die of asphyxiation because we cut all of the trees down to build buildings in countries that were not made to hold large modern populations?
According to AP reports at least 70 species of frogs, mostly mountain-dwellers that had nowhere to go to escape the creeping heat, have gone extinct because of climate change analysis have shown. The reports also state that between 100 and 200 other cold-dependent animal species, such as penguins and polar bears are in deep trouble.
Dinosaurs became extinct, Cavemen became extinct, Mammoths became extinct, DoDo birds became extinct, could us humans be the most intelligent of this group be added to this list? Will we become extinct? We can only grow co much wheat, we can only graze so many cows, we can only chop down so many trees, where is the limit? Reports have shown that sharks feed closer to shore now because of a dwindling food source brought on by over-fishing. If the sharks can run out of food what makes us think we will not?
According to the AP, University of Texas biologist Camille Parmesan stated, “We are finally seeing species going extinct…Now we’ve got the evidence. It’s here. It’s real. This is not just biologists’ intuition. It’s what’s happening.” Camilles’ review of 866 scientific studies is summed up in the journal Annual Review of Ecology, Evolution and Systematics.
Parmesans review noted a large increase in parasites and pests throughout the world. Douglas Futuyma, professor of ecology and evolution at the State University of New York in Stony Brook stated, “I feel as though we are staring crisis in the face,” Futuyma said. “It’s not just down the road somewhere. It is just hurtling toward us. Anyone who is 10 years old right now is going to be facing a very different and frightening world by the time that they are 50 or 60.”
We cannot globalize the world while at the same time save the world from Global Warming. Which country would we hold back, which country would we tell to stop manufacturing? We need to consider these hard choices because like it or not we are all headed down the path to destruction. Do you really want to be extinct? I be the Dinosaurs never thought it would happen, or the saber-tooth tiger, or the wooly mammoth. Maybe God gave us the brains to save ourselves but can we overcome the need for greed that now runs the world?
African farmers missed out on ‘green revolution’ high fertlizer requiring seeds. They havnt been donated pumps. They face pests and diseases. Yet they survive. The Sahara may expand, but a lot of Africa may not change much, compared to the amount of change the rest of us are facing.
