Where is the Equality When It Comes To The ‘N’ Word?

I understand the Michael Richards ‘Nigger’ comment was totally wrong and he should not have acted in such a manner. However, why is it not o.k. for Michael Richards to say Nigger but almost any hip-hop artist can spout the word all over his\her cd with no repercussion? I can hear the word Nigger stated ten times over on each track in reference to lazy or dead individuals on numerous hip-hop cd’s, why is this tolerable?

I also wonder why it is o.k. to have movies titled ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ or ‘White Boys’ and there is no problem. Isn’t racism or are the degrees of racism? Is it o.k. to say White Men can’t dance but not o.k. to say Black men can’t do math? If we all strive for equality why do we practice so much inequality? How can the word ‘Nigger’ be o.k. when it is said by African Americans but it is totally taboo when uttered by any other ethnicity? Do African Americans have a patent on this word? Is it some form of intellectual property I am unaware of? If justice is color blind then why isn’t it wrong to say the N word irregardless of who utters the word? Why in America do we allow the double standard? If Mexicans and Jews cannot say the word ‘Nigger’ in public then neither should African Americans.

The word does not change meaning when uttered out of a Cubans mouth rather than an African Americans mouth does it? We judge all crimes and actions in a universal non-colored way, why does the N word get such different treatment? I believe this word deserves fair treatment and it should not be uttered by whites, yellows, reds, or blacks. If it is wrong it is wrong and the preferential use of the word needs to be eliminated.

Numerous racist individuals hide behind the statement that they just don’t understand the pain of the word and maybe the hip-hops denigration of the word makes it feel more acceptable to be used. However, for older generations who actually respected each other and their ethnic friends the word was never uttered. Rappers cannot spout the words a hundred times and not expect to have the word catch on in popular culture. Is it right? No, is it the way it is, yes.

Michael Richards was wrong and for his actions I am quite sure he will pay a price. However, he was not saying he wants to gun down a block of Niggers, or cap a block of Niggers, or hold up a gang of Niggers. Conversely, I have heard numerous rappers state they want to do unthinkable things to numerous so called Niggers; does black on black crime make it more acceptable than Michael Richards on Black crime?

If its wrong its wrong and African Americans should be banned from using the N word as much as any white, Asian, or Hispanic individual. You can’t have it both ways, if you want blind justice then the knife cuts both ways. It’s either o.k. for all of us to say the N word or for none of us to say the N word. Either way, America needs to make a decision.

  1. White people - stop feeling guilty.

I’m a black African from Uganda, and I have heard worse jokes being made about black people by black comedians, than what was said by Michael Richards. (I personally found his joke very funny, by the way - so call me a bigot!).

Chris Rock, during one of his famous stand-up routines said, he hates niggers so much he wants to join the KKK, and he the would stage a drive-by shooting across the country to kill them all. His audience (99% black) went crazy. They all thought it was funny.

They just have a problem it comes out of a white man’s mouth.

Michael Richards owes no one any apologies. Nor does anyone who chooses to address black people the way they prefer to address themselves as.

    Niggers.

  2. BOOK CRITICAL OF AFRICAN AMERICANS WHO USE THE N-WORD

Los Angeles, CA., Author H. Lewis Smith has written a thought provoking, culturally divided book that will not only spark heated conversation, but can also bring about real change. The N-word is often used in the African American community amongst each other and is generally not a problem when spoken by another African American. However, once the word is used by a Caucasian person, it brings on other effects. The question is “who can use the word and why?” Smith believes it is a word that should be BURIED!!!!

The book is written in a manner that all can understand. The points are well-taken and the wording is easy to follow. There are quotes from great people in our history including Martin Luther King, Jr., Harriet Tubman, James Baldwin and many, many others. Smith has mixed history with honesty, love with life, education with effects. This is a great book for educators, parents, managers, professionals, newsmen, and anyone else wanting an in-depth look at the N-word, the effects and the solutions. A MUST READ!!!!

  3. the issue is the fact that the real nigger of our society is the one that preys on this type of shit., aka , the trailer park, the “dont call us white trash…we OWN our trailer”,
black peeps that are always looking to blame thier troubles on those more prosperous, or intelligent, aka the white man, the crackers, niggers are niggers, no matter what color, yet, if they dont like it, stop saying it, “yo , whats up my nigger” ive had that put into my brain by the black man, and it makes me sick.
