Saddam Hussein Will Hang From The Gallows

Saddam Hussein has been sentenced to hang wild west style and thousands are dancing in the streets in Iraq and Iran. Saddam was a ruthless dictator who ruled his country with an iron fist but what will his death really accomplish? His method of death is a dishonorable one for a Muslim but other than embarrassing him and his family it will not really accomplish much. It will not bring back the hundreds of thousands who were murdered as the world sat by and watched, it will not stop Iran from now trying to rule Iraq through Muqtadr al-Sadr, it will not stop the insurgency. What will we gain from Saddam being hanged?

For a shallow few there will be a sense of satisfaction and for the rest of the world nothing much else will change. We have a radical Muslim population who wants to see the whole world ruled under Islamic law and we have another side of Islam that does nothing but watch in complacency as radical Muslims around the world carry out horrific acts of racist violence. Have we really addressed the issues that made Saddam appear so evil or are we just killing a figurehead and nothing more? Saddam has been out of business for years now and nothing is changed, it actually appears worse. Where do we go from here and what do we do now?

Saddam committed horrible acts of violence but why did we not stop him earlier? How can the world justify its non-action when Saddam was actually ruling in tyranny and murdering thousands a day? If America did not stop his invasion of Kuwait he would have done worse. How can the world have failed so miserably at a time where everyone wants to supposedly be so worldly accountable? Saddam is a sad reminder of the worlds failure to be responsible and that is the real reason so many want to see him be put to death and discarded from this earth. The countries who failed to act during the first Gulf War just want their little problem reminder to go away.

Saddam deserves his punishment there is no denying this fact. However, the world powers such as China, Russia, and countries throughout Europe failed the world and now with the issues such as Iran they are once again failing the world. How can we justify sitting around and waiting when we can actually act? The state of Saddam now should have been the state of him 10 years ago. Yeah, go ahead and be happy if you want that Saddam is going to be put to death. However, do not let the rest of the world wiggle out of its responsibilities and the fact it let Iraq, specifically the Kurds, down so miserably.

It is easy now to say good we will finally be rid of Saddam but take time to remember the hundreds of thousands who died because the world did not act earlier. Saddam deserves a death befitting a criminal but the fact that innocent humans were murdered because the rest of the world avoided the subject of Saddam is the real crime.
