Unemployed Americans Turn To A Life Of Crime

The list of Americas’ most dangerous cities has been released and the Government is scratching their heads at why the Midwest is becoming such a crime filled area. I have an answer for them, “It’s because the Midwest is being hardest hit by the cowardly outsourcing efforts of corporate America.” ST. Louis Missouri is considered the most dangerous city in America to live in but Detroit Michigan and Flint Michigan are a close second and third. According to CNN, “FBI director Robert Mueller was visiting St. Louis when this information got released and on last Thursday he stated it was too early to tell why some types of crime were rising faster in the Midwest.” If the FBI Director could see the amount of jobs lost in the manufacturing sectors in these three cities he would see why the trend is very understandable to those of us who live and work in the Midwest.

According to CNN, “the national FBI figures released in June showed the murder rate in St. Louis jumped 16 percent from 2004 to 2005, compared with 4.8 percent nationally. The overall violent crime rate increased nearly 20 percent, compared with 2.5 percent nationally. While crime increased in all regions last year, the 5.7 percent rise in the 12 Midwestern states was at least three times higher than any other region, according to the FBI.” Where do you think the highest new unemployment filing rates are occurring? The same list of states looks eerily similar.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and the globalization of the world has devastated many previously stable economies and social systems. When these systems begin to break down and fail they affect the way we live. Many who have lost their jobs to outsourcing resort to violence and thievery to support their families while others turn to alcoholism and drugs to address their problems. Regardless of which of these paths you choose it usually leads to a crime and a growing criminal statistic. So many Americans have lost their decent paying jobs that we have begun to become callous towards hearing the unemployment numbers. However, for each individual thrown out on the street we have an American citizen who has a good chance of turning to crime to support his\her way of life. Without America enacting some form of protectionism the situation will only worsen.

We do not need to shut down free trade but we do need to make it more advantageous for companies to decide to keep jobs in America than it currently is. Working Americans stay out of trouble and they have a vested interest in seeing that lawfulness is upheld in their community. We need proud working American’s buying American made products, without this we will continue to see a rise in crime throughout Midwest America and beyond.

It’s time we quit shelling out billions for Iraq, Africa, India, Afghanistan, etcc.. and start taking care of our own fellow Americans. When we fail to provide for our fellow Americans we are failing ourselves as a nation. Corporate greed is a tough thing to overcome but honesty and integrity and your pledge of allegiance to America should stand for so much more.

  1. That is a pretty good assessment you offer. We definitely need our politicians to do a better job protecting our present and future economic prospects. We need policies that punish outsourcing and importing a little more than is currently established.
