America Should Not Lag Behind In Education, Period…..

The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative on Tuesday added Libya to its list of program participants. Libya placed a $250 million order for 1.2 million computers and the associated services. Why is America cutting back on so many vital areas of education when so many so called ‘behind the times schools’ are moving forward into the technological age?

Why are children in Detroit deprived of basic reading materials and class items when countries such as Libya are preparing their youth with laptops and other modern educational devices? We should be ashamed of ourselves and we should rally against any and all foreign policies regarding money being sent abroad when our children right here in America are falling behind and actually barely keeping up.

How about taking care of American children for a change rather than sending billions abroad for big business contracts and foreign governments.

How can we be considered a super power when all we do is turn our back on our own citizens? If America continues to fall behind it will not have an ally like ourselves to come along and pick us back up. If we do not maintain our strength in education and technology we will be left behind in a world that shows no remorse or empathy. Do you think India, China, Russia, or even Saudi Arabia would send any form of economic aid or educational aid to America if we needed it?

We must change our policies to protect the future of our youth and to also properly prepare them for what the next decade will bring. If America is to stay strong it must be educated and this takes much more money than the current politicians spend in America for education.

Between outsourcing and job sourcing it is hard enough to consider any type of job future and job security but if we lose out in education then we have assured our children of a life of hardship and tribulations. The new world does not suffer any fools and if we become undereducated we will become a nation of fools. Not everyone needs a college education to be a success but in general we need our vast young population to be properly educated so that manual labor jobs are needed in support roles.

One hand takes care of the other but if we lose the technical jobs we will eventually lose the manufacturing jobs. There is no excuse for countries like Libya to be on the cutting edge of education when America is struggling just to have enough reading books.

We need a change and we need it immediately.
