President Bush And The Budget Debate

The Bush administration slapped itself on the back Wednesday by saying they are celebrating the fact they reached their goal of cutting the budget deficit in half “three years ahead of schedule.” They cited huge federal tax revenues generated by the Bush tax cut policy. However, many are disputing this claim as well as pointing out that the overall federal deficit is at its largest point in history. Is the Bush claim a mere political move or is it something that should actually be applauded?

Numerous Washington insiders say the budget deficit cut is really a fact of smoke and mirrors. Many others advise that the budget for government was cut because the Bush Administration has sent out so much money to Iraq and Afghanistan. Did Bush really cut money for American government because of his foreign policies? If he did then we need to make sure we consider this when we consider voting for any Republican running for office this election. If the President won’t listen to us then we must make his party get his attention. If our governments budget was cut because of foreign spending then this cannot be forgiven in political terms, the Republican Party must answer this question.

We must also address the issue of the trade deficit, why hasn’t the Bush Administration done more to make America more competitive as well as limit our losses in world trade? We need answers to these important questions and we need them now. Americas’ future should not be associated with political smoke and mirror tricks, we need real leadership and real progress towards our future.
