America Cannot Afford Casual Votes, We Need Informed Votes

Advertisements cannot win an election but they sure can help a candidate not lose an election. How can this be? Because the majority of voters become informed before they cast their votes, the commercials are designed to go after the swing votes or the casual votes, they are not designed to try and influence the staunch Republican or hard core leftist Democrat. Michigan is a good case in point, the Governors job is being hotly contested and both candidates are flooding the market with advertisements and commercials stating that the other candidate will expedite job outsourcing and job losses felt hard in Michigan. One such ad for the Republican candidate ends with Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm stating, “And in five years, you’re going to be blown away.” The purpose of the end statement in the Republican commercial was unknown but apparently the commercial backfired. More individuals became intrigued by the commercial and grew a fondness towards Governor Granholm, now the Republican commercial has been edited so that the ending has been removed but this one commercial explains the tricky process both sides of the aisle will rely on to try and win your vote. The Associated Press predicted that advertising spending in the Michigan governor’s race could near $40 million. Your best defense, get informed.

Most voters try to be informed about issues before they cast their vote, many are like myself. I vote for the best regardless of political affiliation. There are great candidates on both sides as well as scoundrels. You must do some research and some fact finding if you really want the truth. You must also remember that this election is one of the most important in years; you need to be informed as well as inform others. We need to get a grip on outsourcing, job sourcing, and the selling off of American interests, and the trade policies that affect our lives. We all need to gain a deeper understanding of the candidates’ views and positions we are considering to vote for. At one time voting was a duty, now it is a necessity. I don’t want any casual votes this November, America cannot afford them. We need intelligent votes, we needs informed votes, we need you to step up and be active until November regardless of your position.

You cannot base a vote on a television commercial whose messages are low on content and high on emotion and entertainment, sound bites and personal attacks are no substitute for solid policies and job growth ideas.

We also encourage you to visit sites like Voteswagon and other political sites and get involved. Make comments, put your questions out there. Share sites like this with your friends and family and have them be active as well. It’s your America, and your one vote can make a difference.
