North Korea is once again pulling the ‘Look at Me’ tactic of drawing attention to itself. However, unlike a spoiled brat the potential devastation of a nuclear Korean peninsula cannot be ignored. We have dedicated so many resources to the Iraq war we are neglecting a much more realistic threat to world peace, North Korea. We can try and marginalize North Korea as much as we want but in the end they will get the worlds’ attention one way or another. It’s time to burry the hatchet and engage this country in direct talks, if not we better be prepared for the worst. Talk is cheap and for a country spread so thin I think talk is the best option.
North Korea began once again to state that American hostility and pressure is forcing North Korea into nuclear brinkmanship by making North Korea feel they must conduct a nuclear test in order to proceed with their nuclear weapons program in case they need a strong defense against American aggression. The North Korean Foreign Ministry released a statement published by the Korean Central News Agency stating, “The field of scientific research of the DPRK will in the future conduct a nuclear test under the condition where safety is firmly guaranteed.”
The nuclear test is akin to the ‘Hey look at me’ scream of a bratty child. However, unlike a bratty child a nuclear enabled megalomaniac can and will seek destruction of whom it perceives as its enemies, or friends of its enemies and that is what concerns the world. North Korea will have its sights dead set on Japan and South Korea and may even launch an accidental missile into India. It would fire nuclear missiles and blame the destruction on American policy. The new world is as much about opinion as it is about fact and we must start to once again gain allies and friends rather than fall victim to twisted logic.
A date and time for the test was not issued but the threat is about as real as the test itself. Only and idiot would push the panic button and not go forward. You can say what you want about Kim Jong Il but he is not an idiot. He may be a drama queen, a spoiled brat, or even a maniacal megalomaniac but he is not stupid.
Let’s make love not war, or at the ver yleast create some jobs.
