Has Islam Been HiJacked By Extremists?

As September 11th comes and goes we are reminded of the pain and suffering a growing and free nation can experience, we are also reminded of the hatred and racism which still emanates from certain parts of the world because they do not want to accept other cultural ways of life. Radical fundamentalists claim Islam is the most perfect religion and to some it is, they do not accept gays and lesbians, they do not allow unmarried sex, they do not allow stealing, or trespassing. However, it’s not the strict interpretation of God’s law most of the world has a problem with; it’s the racist nature of their ‘conform or die’ attitude which is the problem. They at times fail to see how similar Jews, Christians, and Muslims are in their belief of one God. Furthermore, their inability to recognize these similarities is encouraging an environment of hatred which is resulting in even more Islamic fundamentalism and extreme racism. There are also Imams who now utilize their positions as religious leaders to exploit their surroundings. The so-called religious leaders exact their political, social, and personal views, through their preaching’s at Friday prayers, this is one of the most devious forms of manipulation in the world but it is effective and it is occurring both in the Middle East and abroad.

As a display of hatred a lengthy video statement from Ayman al-Zawahiri was issued on Sunday to commemorate al Qaeda’s attacks on the United States. During the video al-Zawahiri calls on Muslims worldwide to step up their attacks on the United States, al-Zawahiri also warns that new attacks are on the way.
My question to the millions of Muslims throughout the world is this, “Why hasn’t any Islamic groups stood up to the hate speeches put out there by individuals such as al-Zawahiri? By being complacent Muslims are being enablers and this is as bad as being a racist themselves. How can so many allow so few to hi-jack their religion and commit sins under the name of God? I have no problem with Islam and their beliefs; I share many of the same beliefs. However, I do not like Christian fundamentalists and I don’t like Islamic fundamentalists. I hear soo many Christians’ speaking out against certain Christian statements or views but I never see Muslims speaking out against other Muslims? Is there something I don’t know about? Other than intimidation, is there any reason why Muslims do not condemn the actions of certain other Muslims?

To detail my point further read this excerpt from al-Zawahiris’ speech, “Your leaders are hiding from you the true extent of the disaster…And the days are pregnant and giving birth to new events, with Allah’s permission and guidance.” Does this sound like a true man of God or a true racist of humanity? I do not know the man personally but I know the rhetoric and this type of rhetoric usually is not divinely inspired it is usually deeply rooted in racism and bigotry. We had the guts to rebuild a country can someone have the guts to stand up to blabbermouths who hijack religion in the name of racism and hatred?
