Lessons ON War On Terror Being Fought

NATO Leaders in Afghanistan have taken months to understand what American leadership still does not grasp; more boots are needed on the ground if the war on terror is to be won in the Middle East and West Asian part of the world. As President Bush and Secretary Rumsfeld run around America claiming progress and victory, NATO military leaders in Afghanistan are singing a different tune, they are saying it will take way more than they have which is actually more than America had in the war on terror in Afghanistan. I am all about rooting out Islamic fundametalists and their whack job theories but I think its time we go right to the source and ask, ‘Who is funding these jokers?’

How can such poor organizations wage such long wars with such high quality equipment when they really have no means of income? Where is the money coming from? Is it all of the outsourced workers in that area contributing American dollars back to the cause of killing American souls? Why hasn’t the funding for these groups been stopped or at least revealed. Imagine if a Jewish family was shopping at a local store which was in return sending back hundreds of thousands of dollars to Hammas or Jihad, we deserve to have this war waged correctly if we are footing the bill.

The proof is in the pudding in regards to our mistakes in Afghanistan. Reportedly on Thursday NATO’s top commander requested for allied nations to send military reinforcements to southern Afghanistan. NATO has advised that the Taliban militants are inflicting heavy casualties on foreign forces there and captured a remote town from police for the second time in two months. Why did we have such a small force there for so long? If the Taliban supported Bin Laden then why did we dedicate more resources to rooting out Sadaam? Shouldn’t we have gone after the Taliban with much more aggression than Iraq? I don’t recall any Iraqi’s involved in the events of September eleventh; I do know that much of Afghanistan did support the terrorist activities.

According to reports to CNN, it has been reported that NATO commanders have been surprised by the intensity of the Taliban attacks since the alliance moved into the volatile region and by insurgents’ willingness to stand and fight rather than hit-and-run. A NATO commander has been quoted as saying, “In the relatively near future, certainly before the winter, we will see this decisive moment in the region turn in favor of the troops that represent the government.”

It has also been reported to CNN that late Wednesday, Taliban militants reclaimed the southern Helmand provincial town of Garmser for the second time since July after police fled their compound late Wednesday, said local police chief, Ghulam Nabi Malakhail.

How much longer do we have to fund a war that seems so ongoing? Why can’t we just eliminate the money sources for these groups and cut them off where it will really hurt? There has to be a better way to win this war, we cannot keep going on like this and not expect to compromise our own safety and economy.
