Is Profiling Muslims O.k. In War On Terror?

Individuals were arrested with over a thousand pre paid cell phones in their car. Another individual was stopped last night with numerous license plates in his car, a large variety of ID’s, none of which were his, and the driver himself had no form of ID on him other than the name Mohammed. These criminals, as well as others similar to them, are decrying they are not criminals but the victims of profiling. Does profiling occur in America, you bet. When you submit your resume to a job, you are being profiled. When you ask to get into a pickup game of basketball, you are profiled. We profile in some way almost everyday in our lives, why should providing security be any different?

Until Islam actually controls its own radical element it can expect nothing less than to be involved in profiling. The majority of Muslims do not support the extremist view of eliminating all non-Muslims, commonly referred to as infidels. However, the fact that moderate Islam has not policed the radical element leads many to believe they are guilty by association and right or wrong this is what they will deal with if they do not help root out the radical element in Islam.

We should not allow the complaints of profiling to change any American security policies we currently have here in America. We must be careful not to assail individuals civil rights, citizens of any origin or religion should not be targeted based on their appearance or faith. However, if anyone of any race or religion acts suspiciously and appears involved in some form of terrorist activity, then I feel they should be scrutinized more for their affiliations and associations. We cannot avoid the obvious just because we want to appear politically correct. We should not endanger an individuals right to privacy, or disrespect their civil rights, but if you march in Washington with a sign that says’ Death to America’ then you better expect to be scrutinized and potentially surveyed.

I hve no problem with speaking out about politicians and policy, we do it all the time here at Voteswagon. However, I do have a problem with radical elements calling for the death of a nation and its citizens. Does profiling happen? Yes. Is it the best policy? No. However, as long as law enforcement plays by the rules and does not violate any civil rights then I say profile away. If I am doing nothing wrong then you can watch me all day, no problem. Numerous times I was followed by police when I drove a Mustang GT, was that profiling? You bet. However, I previously did nothing wrong and I intended to do no wrong in the near future. Therefore, I said to myself, ‘Let them follow away.’

  1. Interesting. But it’s not only them we must identify. Let me explain:

The agencies here are in PANIC!

And they are obsessed with Technology!

And that just doesn’t work. We will spend billions of dollars now to find a solution for detecting X, but once we reach that the terrorist will use Y, or Z, or A, B, C or a combination of all of the above instead!

The US agencies are looking for the BOMB but not for the BOMBER!

The only combination that works in this field is when you mix up Technology with Human Factor. We need to start training selectors in the airport in identifying suspicious behaviour. Random security is worthless! You have to be able to identify the possible terrorist. And believe me, no matter how ideologically brainwashed you are or how convicted you are to your religion, before dying or killing people get nervous. And we must be able to identify this.

Only then will we be SAFER. Yep, not 100% safe, nor 90% safe like the Israelis, for that we also need Human Intelligence in the process involved in identifying, recruiting, training, and sending a Bomber.

But with that mixture of Technology and Human Factor we will be safer…and the travelers will not pay the price everytime a new type of explosive or tactic is tested by the terrorists causing the system to PANIC.

In the meantime, though… it looks like we are going to have to take our security and the security of our loved ones in our own hands. There are many things one can do in order to increase one’s safety should something occur. An excellent source for this can be found at http://www.technonllc.com/pd1
