A federal in Detroit ruled that the U.S. government’s domestic eavesdropping program is unconstitutional and she ordered the policy to be stopped immediately. Numerous Bush policies are coming under further scrutiny and the eavesdropping decision is just another blow to what is becoming a rolling rock of rebellion in regards to previous Bush policies. In response to the ruling U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales stated that the Bush Administration disagrees with the ruling and is in the process of appealing the decision.
Reportedly the Bush administration secretly instituted the program immediately after the terrorist events of September 11. The current Bush eavesdropping policy provides the National Security Administration authorization to clandestinely conduct wiretaps without a court order. Numerous civil rights proponents disagree with the policy as well as numerous immigrant groups. The merits of the policy have been argued by both sides of the policy debate with neither side really offering any tangible evidence to support their views and opinions on the policy.
