Do the politicians work for the voters or for the votes? In regards to the immigration issue it appears that a large majority of politicians sway their votes depending on public opinion polls, whatever happened to doing the right thing for the right reasons? The type of political voting I am witnessing recently leaves me to believe that my vote is more for sale than it is for reasons. Do politicians just want to hold on so badly that they are willing to do the wrong thing just to pander to a few more voters? What is going on here? Has the American political system lost its bearings or its balls? We used to be led by great men and woman, now we are led by slimy snake oil salesmen, where are the hero’s of our time?
The Congress, and the Senate, have been hotly arguing with each other over the immigration issue, both sides vigorously pursued their own agendas in regards to the illegal immigration issue but neither side has really done anything to make Amnerica safer. Both sides have tied their agendas to irrelevant pet project issues or partisan proposals. We need politicians to work towards making America a safe and economically powerful country, not a country reduced to groveling because its political leaders have lost their backbones.
Great leaders make tough decisions at needed times, our current leaders do nothing but point fingers and hide behind partisan rhetoric. Where is the next generation leader who will inspire rather than outsource the American Dream?
It has been reported that the House of Representatives will begin a new series of hearings on immigration next month in Washington and throughout the country. House Speaker Dennis Hastert stated the hearings will be in diverse locations “so we understand what the American people are saying.” The push for the hearings is led by Hastert, an aide to the GOP leadership told CNN. The hearings on Capitol Hill will occur in July, the aide said, but most of those outside of Washington will be held in August.
They know what we are saying they just want time to decide which way is better for them to vote in regards to their parties desires. The question of what is right or wrong never comes up, it is what will win the party the most votes in coming elections. This type of reasoning is absurd, how can it be justified?
The Senate has already promoted an immigration bill but the House wants its own version of legislation. A House Republican aide told CNN that the hearings were meant to “increase the negatives [of Senate bill] while accentuating the positives of the House bill.” Differences between the Senate bill and a House bill that passed in December and focuses mainly on border security still must be reconciled by a conference committee. Members of the conference have yet to be appointed.
The conference committee will not meet until after the hearings, a GOP aide told CNN. With mid-term elections this fall, it may be difficult to get immigration legislation to the president’s desk before lawmaker’s hit the campaign trail.
Where is the next generation leader who will inspire rather than outsource the American Dream?
