Has America just thrown its hands up on the immigration issue or do they have the balls to stand up and make themselves accountable once again? Will we just let politicians wish this problem away or will we force them to address it properly? These are questions that should not be avoided or go unanswered, they should be addressed head on and tough decisions need to be made to rectify the situation. The National Guard has begun to deploy its forces on the border areas of Arizona but many still have apprehensions about the project and about the overall immigration policy in general. Something is better than nothing but how much can we just ignore?
Reportedly, the first wave of the scheduled 6,000 National Guard troops ordered to bolster patrols along the U.S.-Mexico border will begin trying to make their mark on immigration by working on projects in southern Arizona. More are needed and they work orders most likely need to be tweaked but a lil something is much better than the recent lots of nothing. How much more needs to be done to secure our borders? Lots, lets just hope this is only the beginning.
Reportedly the troops have already been advised that they will be placed under the umbrella of Operation Jump Start, the deployment President Bush announced in May. Lets just hope this operation does not become the ‘that’s all there is’ operation. President Bush has given us the pump and dump scam before, we must be more vigilant this time.
Current plans call for the first Utah group to begin work in Arizona by expanding an existing fence, set up lighting around the border crossing, and build a road parallel to the border. The Utah Guard units will supplement troops deployed from Arizona units.
We must watch this issue carefully and make sure we keep vigilance on this issue. We cannot keep affording to let our country just slip away.
