Religious Right Riled Over Da Vinci Code

The Religious Right are up in arms once again over another movie. Previously Brokeback Mountain had them all worked up and not it’s the Da Vinci Code. These individuals need to take a breather; I think God can handle his business without them creating mass hysteria and hatred. They do not understand yet that the movies’ creators want this and much more, controversy sells and the more there is the better tickets sales will be. We must also remember there is a separation of church and state so for the few religious zealots who have contacted their congressmen let me assure them nothing will come of this. Just relax and take a deep breadth, this movie will be gone faster than you can say “X-Men 3.” Besides, this is America; even idiots have the right to freedom of expression. I do not ever remember even God himself censoring idiots so why should I, or anyone else, worry about this movie.

“The Da Vinci Code,” is the 2 1/2-hour adaptation of the bestselling book of the same name. Reportedly the movie has drawn numerous sneers and jeers from Europe’s film critics, on Friday the movie will be released in the rest of the world.

Reportedly the plot is hard to follow and the acting is nothing spectacular. Most critics in Europe did not give the movie their overall stamp of approval and this does not bode well for the movie as it readies for releases in other more Christian dominated countries.

Freedom of religion and expression is a base that America has always built upon, we cannot jeopardize these values because of a movie we may or may not disagree with. You have a choice, go to the movie or stay away. However, one choice you do not have is to pressure your local congressmen with threats as an attempt to try and get the movie banned from your area. This is un-American behavior at its worst.

The movie will stand or fall on its own merits; it will not recreate the universe nor save it. Just take it easy and soon enough this will all just blow away.
