Many see last night’s immigration speech as just a pandering method for trying to get more Republican votes for the upcoming election, do you feel the same? The Democrats rebuttal speech was quite stinging and it was very direct. Do you feel this administration is really serious about cutting down illegal immigration? Will they be as hard as they need to be?
We have heard the rhetoric before and many say that rotating national guards at the border is not a solid enough step. Many say the President is trying to straddle the fence on this one because he does not want to offend the Republican base, many of whom run businesses that rely on illegal workforces to jack up their huge profit margins.
Numerous Washington insiders say this was just a poor attempt at trying to pander a few more votes for the 2006 elections. Should our national security be whored out as a way to get more votes? I also want to know, who is responsible for this catastrophe? How did we ever get in this position in the first place?
While many see last nights speech as simply a way to increase the amount of Republican votes, you have to remember that many other people actually listened to the content of his message and felt he made a step in the right direction to fix a problem that has become out of control in this country. I’m not a political analyst so I’m not as in tune with why decisions are made by Government officials but it is possible that they were actually trying to do something good.
This administration has many problems. I’m not contesting that. Maybe Bush can’t get the illegal immigrants under control, but just for a second Politicians, Analysts, and the media should stop playing the Democratic versus Republican card game and actually work together to solve a problem. If we had a Democratic President that proposed the same thing the Republicans would find fault with it, even if it was a great idea. As you stated in your April 25th article
Americans want this problem resolved. Why is it now that Bush is doing this just to get votes? Is it possible that he actually listened to the American public? This decision will cause problems for businesses that have relied on the illegal labor force but they will struggle and find a way through this.
I say forget what the Democrats are saying, forget what the Republicans are saying, and most importantly forget what the analysts are saying. Did the proposed solution make any sense and will it help us get the illegal immigrant problem under control? If it does we should all work together to help. If it doesn’t then we should propose a different solution.
