Hamas And Fatah Violence Is Everyones Problem

You should either be in it to win it or don’t even bother to begin it, this half in half out policy of America in the Middle east is getting us nowhere and I think its time we rethink our foreign policy. Is democracy on the march in the Middle East? You tell me. We had free elections in Iraq and look at the state they are in. We finally pushed through free elections in Palestine and look at the state they are in. What is the problem and why hasn’t democracy taken root like it has in most parts of the world? Many believe it is because the religion Islam has become more of a political control mechanism than a religion in the Middle East and those in power want nothing to do with secular change.

Long before we had the Iran\Iraq war, Pakistan\Afghanistan war, Pakistan\India war, we had the Arab Israeli war and most do not notice any longer but the war is still going on. We thought we helped settle the area down when elections first occurred in Palestine but once again things are out of control and democracy seems to be a fleeting glimpse of hope for the people of Palestine. It has gotten so bad that even the radical Islamic terrorist groups are turning on themselves in Palestine and the world appears helpless to enact any change.

Recent clashes between Hamas and Fatah militants have wounded nine Palestinians, including five schoolchildren, on Tuesday. Heated arguments between the two groups have been occurring since the Islamic militant Hamas ended Fatah’s 40 year control of Palestinian politics. The opposing factions presented varying reports in regards to what started the violence in downtown Gaza City. Just a few days earlier similar violence claimed the lives of other arguing individuals from both groups.

We need to make a real effort to settle this conflict or just get our noses out of the way. We need to be in it to win it and we need to make changes for the positive.
