Gas Prices Are Based On Fictional Shortage, It’s Criminal

I traveled 200 miles North this past weekend in the state of Michigan. We filled the gas tank before the trip, during the trip, and again after the trip. We purchased gas at the exact same type of gas station when we were up North as I did when we got back home. The price differences between purchases was .23 cents. I asked both gas attendants, where the gas was bought, “About how much profit is being made at this price?”

Both responded about 3 to 4 cents per gallon and that’s it. Both advised me that they make more at lower costs. I then asked, “ how the price was set?” Both responded that they were told by regional managers that the price they have to charge is the established price for this state. I did not want to cause conflict but I wondered, “How can I receive the same answer from two station managers 200 miles apart and yet there is a .23 cent difference in price, what gives?”

I am not one to pile on gas stations but the answers I received to my question led me to believe someone was lying and taking advantage of their customer. How could the gas be almost a quarter more in one area over another when they were both told to set the price according to their state? I also asked if the prices would be going up and the attendant at one station said definitely because there is always a shortage on Memorial weekend. I wondered , “How can this be, the last report released by congress advised we had an unexpectedly large inventory the past week and they say the inventory will be even larger in two weeks.” I must now ask, “How can anyone justify higher prices for the holiday weekend by saying the pat line of supply and demand?” This is a joke; the shortage has already begun in gas stations minds even though the facts say otherwise. How can congress, and our state Governors, allow this to occur? Someone needs to be brought to justice.

We elect politicians to protect us, if the ones we have now cannot then we must elect new ones. Someone has to stop the loss of jobs to outsourcing and they need to keep oil companies from feasting on the American taxpayer.
