Senator Arlen Specter Strikes At Oil Issue

Chuck Schumer was the first to publicly speak out and now more brave Americans are standing up and being accounted for in Washington. Let’s hope the trend continues and we finally get our monies worth out of some of the stragglers who have been just collecting fat government paychecks. If you thought welfare cheaters were detestable just check out the voting record of some of your Representatives and Senators, you would really blow your stack.

Don’t get me wrong, there are numerous good Senators, and Representatives, working hard for the American public, there is just not enough of them. However, another fine example of a good American politician is that of Senator Arlen Specter. The Senator broke the age old republican mold of being in it for the rich and spoke out aggressively towards the oil companies who are vampire feeding on American citizens. However, it is said a vampire only takes what he needs, these oil companies, and oil commodities traders, are bloodsucking way more than they need, they are feeding on us like it’s a feeding frenzy and another vampire slayer has risen up in our defense. Good for him, he has my support as long as he needs it right now.

Senator Arlen Specter, who is a very prominent Republican, has been routinely stating that the U.S. government should consider imposing a windfall tax on oil company profits… The Senator stated, “I think it’s something worth considering among a number of options.” The Senator went on to criticized consolidation in the oil industry by stating,
“I believe that we have allowed too many companies to get together to reduce competition.” This statement appeared to be in regards to the margining of gigantic oil companies that resulted in the creation of ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips.

Senator Specter then went further and began to say he feels there are numerous conspiracies afoot that are combining to gouge the American public. The Senator stated he has co-sponsored legislation that would help make more parties responsible for their activities I nthe oil manipulation issue. The Senator stated, “make the OPEC countries, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela and the other countries, subject to our antitrust laws….They get together, reduce the supply of oil, and that drives up prices…I think windfall profits, eliminating the antitrust exemption, considering the excessive concentration of power are all items we ought to be addressing.”

Senator Specters remarks were very controversial in Washington as many Democrats have decried that President Bush is not doing enough to address the issue because it is his friends and supporters who are really profiting from the current gas issue. I am unsure if all his friends are prospering from this situation but the perception by the general public definitely does not help the Republican Party who is guilty by association with President Bush and any sentiment towards him.

Thank you senator Specter, your efforts are greatly appreciated.

  1. I am grateful that politicians are starting to step up but they need to do more, much more for the American citizens who pay their taxes. I really apreicate how this particular site hammers on the issues relevant to America. Keep up the vigilence.
